About The Position

Embark on an enriching journey with PROCEPT BioRobotics, where our vision, mission, and values guide everything we do as a company. At PROCEPT, we put the patient first in everything we do and are committed to revolutionizing treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH, otherwise known as prostate gland enlargement) through innovation in surgical robotics. As our company succeeds and grows, we improve the quality of life of patients, provide more effective treatment options for surgeons, uphold the trust of our shareholders. That starts with a commitment to our People with a focus on creating an evolving landscape for your career, brimming with transformative opportunities that provide continuous career growth opportunities. Build the hardware that surgeons trust with their patients! We are developing next-generation robotic surgical systems that enable safer, more precise procedures and better outcomes for patients suffering from BPH. We’re looking for a Staff Mechanical Engineer to lead the architecture and design of complex electro-mechanical subsystems — precision mechanisms, motion systems, and capital equipment used directly in the operating room. This is not a CAD-only role. You will function as a technical owner and system architect, driving decisions that shape the product and mentoring engineers across the team. If you enjoy solving deep mechanical problems, working shoulder-to-shoulder with EE/Systems/Clinical teams, and shipping hardware that truly matters, you’ll feel at home here.

  • Proven expertise across all phases of the product development lifecycle—from concept to design transfer and manufacturing.
  • Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, including modeling of complex mechanisms and assemblies.
  • Strong prototyping and iterative design skills, with hands-on experience building and testing mechanical systems.
  • Deep knowledge of manufacturing processes such as injection molding, machining, sheet metal forming, and rapid prototyping.
  • Demonstrated ability to design for manufacturability, reliability, and cost-efficiency.
  • Experience managing outsourced development programs and setting technical criteria for vendor deliverables.
  • Skilled in mechanical analysis including statics, dynamics, kinematics, and stress analysis.
  • Advanced proficiency in tolerance stack-up analysis for low- to mid-volume production environments.
  • Familiarity with IEC 60601 standards and thermal design for complex integrated systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a proven ability to work cross-functionally and drive consensus, and present to executive leadership.
  • Deep understanding of medical device regulations, design controls, risk management, and quality systems (e.g., ISO 13485, FDA 21 CFR Part 820).
  • Proven track record of delivering Class II/III medical devices from concept through commercialization.
  • Travel up to 10% of the time, internationally and domestic

  • Hands-on, collaborative, and solutions-oriented approach.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and verify mechanical engineering solutions for Capital equipment working both hands-on and collaboratively including architecture direction, design and procurement of components, prototype assembly and builds, and design and development of testing and assembly fixtures and methods.
  • Work in a small, cross-functional team to define and develop technical specifications for robotic systems and subsystems
  • Lead workstreams for capital equipment or subsystem within the ME team or cross functionally,
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines (software, electrical, systems, manufacturing) on the design of capital equipment systems and subsystems
  • Contribute to and make decisions based on risk assessments, industry standards, and regulatory frameworks
