About The Position

The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated individual to perform difficult and complex food safety and dairy inspections, collecting samples, and providing detailed technical reports for supervisory review and approval. Audits Illinois’ dairy producers, dairy processing plants, and bulk milk tankers and haulers that transport, sample and grade fluid milk for quality and safety.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college.
  • Requires prior experience equivalent to three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization.
  • Requires professional certification as a Licensed Environmental Health Practitioner (LEHP).
  • Requires four (4) years of experience in the dairy industry and/or regulator field.
  • Requires the ability to travel in the performance of duties.
  • Requires appropriate, valid driver's license.
  • Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position.
  • This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest.

Nice To Haves

  • Four (4) years of experience in the dairy industry and/or regulator field.
  • Three (3) years of experience applying knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental health and public health laws and regulations, especially pertaining to dairy operations.
  • Three (3) years of experience conducting environmental health regulatory assessments and inspections at regulated entities.
  • Three (3) years of experience in environmental field sampling equipment and testing techniques.
  • Three (3) years of experience collaborating with local health department staff and other public health partners.
  • Three (3) years of work experience using Microsoft software products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the Statewide lnterstate Milk Shippers (IMS) surveys pursuant to the Grade A Milk and Milk Products Act, 410 ILCS 635, U.S. Food and Drug Administration Pasteurized Milk Ordinance (PMO), other applicable statutes and the officially promulgated rules and regulations.
  • Administers the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Certified Sampling Surveillance program.
  • Coordinates the activities of Illinois' other Milk Sanitation Rating Officers including training, scheduling of surveys and evaluation of survey results.
  • Confers with the Dairy Program Manager in planning, developing, and directing educationalprograms to increase efficiency and to maintain uniformity of the Pasteurized Milk Ordinanceadministration.
  • As a representative of the Office of Health Protection, confers with and travels to give presentations to other State industry and interested lay organizations to explain and interpret State laws, rules and regulations, policies, and procedures as they pertain to Illinois' dairy sanitation program.
  • Attends continuing education and professional development training.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
