About The Position

American Transportation is seeking an experienced State Instructor for School Bus Drivers to join our Thousand Oaks' team. As a State Instructor, you'll be the cornerstone of our safety culture, developing comprehensive training programs, conducting hands-on instruction, and ensuring every driver meets the highest standards of professionalism and safety.

Requirements

  • California State School Bus Instructor Certificate (Active and current)
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements
  • 3+ years of experience as a School Bus Driver
  • 3+ years of experience as a School Bus Instructor/Trainer
  • Ability to commute to Long Beach, CA 90805
  • Day shift availability (required)
  • Deep knowledge of California laws, regulations, and rules governing passenger transportation
  • Understanding of carrier, instructor, and driver responsibilities and liabilities
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and transportation-specific software
  • Computer literacy in word processing and database management
  • Exceptional leadership and interpersonal communication abilities
  • Outstanding organizational and group presentation skills
  • Advanced multi-tasking and time management capabilities
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking
  • Methods for building self-confidence in public speaking and operational skills

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement cutting-edge initial and recurrent training programs for all transportation personnel
  • Deliver engaging classroom instruction covering California transportation laws, regulations, and safety protocols
  • Provide behind-the-wheel training to applicants and current drivers, ensuring mastery of vehicle operations
  • Develop and conduct regularly scheduled Driver Safety Meetings to maintain awareness and compliance
  • Create effective lesson plans using proven teaching techniques for both classroom and practical applications
  • Supervise and mentor driver trainers, establishing clear objectives, standards, and performance accountability
  • Foster an environment that encourages input, feedback, and continuous improvement
