About The Position

The STEAM Lab Teacher is responsible for leading activities and projects in the STEAM Lab for 6-8th grade students. STEAM Lab activities include but are not limited to 3-D printing, circuits, robotics, basic electronics, coding, art and design. The STEAM Lab Teacher will be responsible for bringing curriculum and project ideas to the STEAM Lab in addition to using curricula that uses a STEAM approach to learning and that adheres to California NexGen Science State Standards. The STEAM Lab Teacher must provide an exceptional educational program for pupils in grades 6-8th, as outlined in the California Standards for the Teaching Profession, and assist in other school programs as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Valid California single subject science teaching credential
  • English Language Learner Authorization
  • CPR/First Aid (provided by Ingenium post-hire)

  • Principles and methods of curriculum design, a plus
  • Distance learning experience preferred, and must have the capacity to learn how to be successful working in an independent study environment

  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior, measuring progress through individual and class goal setting
  • Involve students in the process of the classroom including: creating a class Code of Cooperation, creating classroom procedures, and conflict resolution strategies
  • Create a safe, developmentally appropriate classroom environment conducive to learning and based on student interests and goals
  • Incorporate restorative justice and PBIS practices and implement social emotional learning curriculum
  • Implement and support school/organizational policies governing student life and conduct
  • Utilize educational technology including GoogleApps for Education to enhance learning experiences
  • Effectively manage STEAM lab for 6-8th grade Students
  • Engage students in fun, practical, and hands-on lessons based on established curriculum and specific classroom needs geared towards motivating 6-8th grade students towards Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics
  • Design, implement, and monitor the learning experiences of each student
  • Maintain an inventory of science materials and organization of STEAM Lab
  • Provide assistance to teachers and staff members in planning and incorporating STEM activities into daily instruction
  • Partner with the school to promote STEAM-related activities during the school day or evenings
  • Assist with data collection and analysis for school STEM-related grants, if applicable
  • Provide STEAM-related professional development to colleagues and share best practices in STEAM education with colleagues
  • Instruct students individually and in groups using various teaching methods: lecture, discussion, demonstration, small group, student-led instruction, etc.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ differing needs and interests
  • Prepare and implement intervention programs for students requiring extra help
  • In harmony with curriculum and in connection with State Standards, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students daily
  • Prepare materials and classroom for class activities
  • Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, and guide students in learning activities
  • Consistently and accurately observe and assess students’ academic performance, behavior, social development, and physical health, both formally and informally, through observation, formative assessment, and written evaluation
  • Provide frequent and timely feedback to students and parents on student progress
  • Recommend resources to parents for additional student growth
  • Timely deliver accurate and complete written and oral progress reports
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by law and Ingenium Schools’ policies
  • Maintain individual and class goal folders to set learning goals and action plans and track learning process
  • Maintain student confidentiality
  • Confer with students and parents outside of the instructional day to resolve students’ behavioral and/or academic issues, as needed
  • Maintain and improve professional competence and participate in professional development opportunities
  • Actively participate in team meetings (grade level, special education, department, etc.) and serve on staff committees, school-wide events, parent workshops, and community partnership events
  • Assist with school/organizational events, general supervision, extra-curricular support, tutoring, etc., as needed
  • Actively participate in student recruitment, including but not limited to: attending recruitment events, student orientations, and community events to represent the school and inform the community of Ingenium Schools
  • Assists with distribution of marketing materials in the community, as needed
  • Perform related duties as assigned
