About The Position

As a Strategic Communications Content Specialist in AFWERX, you will play a critical role in shaping and executing communication strategies to achieve AFWERX goals and Director priorities that help address the most pressing challenges of the DAF. You will work closely with organization leadership, subject matter experts, small businesses and other stakeholders across the ecosystem to ensure clear, consistent, and effective communication internally and externally.

Requirements

  • Secret Clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related field
  • 5+ years of experience working in the communications field, preferably within a military or government context.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear, concise, and compelling messages for diverse audiences to include long-form and presentations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.

  • Proficiency in digital communication tools to include Google Workspace.
  • Flexibility to work in fast-paced environments and adapt to changing priorities and have strong time management skills working under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a highly dispersed organization.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a content strategy and editorial calendar aligned with AFWERX goals and audience needs.
  • Research, write, and edit communication products including press releases, articles, website content, and technical materials in accordance with Department of the Air Force style guidance and OPSEC requirements.
  • Translate complex technical information into clear, engaging narratives that communicate the value and impact of AFWERX programs.
  • Create communication and marketing products such as presentations, briefings, and graphics while ensuring consistency with AFWERX branding and messaging.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and stakeholders to gather information, tailor content to target audiences, and support strategic communication initiatives.
