The Division of Student Affairs is the primary student services provider for The University of New Mexico’s large and diverse student population. Our programs and services span the student experience from the transition to college all the way to graduation. Whether a student needs access to health and well-being services, support for basic needs, opportunities to learn about different cultures, or if they just want to have some fun, we provide engaging events, programs, and services that meet them where they are. The Student Affairs Leadership Intern (SALI) plays a key role in helping create a vibrant, inclusive community where every Lobo feels seen, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential. Under the direct supervision of the Strategic Support Manager, the SALI program aims to: cultivate professional accountability by immersing interns in a collaborative office environment where workplace expectations, scheduled work commitments, and professional habits and etiquette are developed in alignment with OVPSA and UNM Student Employment guidelines. increase awareness of professional pathways to careers in Student Affairs by providing exposure to functional areas, mentorship opportunities, and hands‑on experiences that illuminate the scope and impact of the field. prepare interns for graduate school and entry into the higher education job market by offering skill‑building experiences, application guidance, and opportunities to develop professional materials and competencies. strengthen divisional assessment and reporting capacity by involving interns in data collection, documentation, and analysis activities that support evidence‑informed decision‑making. foster innovation within the Division by empowering interns to propose, develop, and implement new ideas that enhance services, programs, and the student experience. Primary Duties Upon completion of required training, Support the daily operations of the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs by performing general administrative duties including, but not limited to, greeting, and directing visitors, responding to inquiries regarding divisional activities and operations, answering and directing phone calls, managing incoming and outgoing correspondence, and tracking and maintaining swag inventory. Assist the Strategic Support Manager with divisional assessment and reporting efforts by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing datasets. Support the Director of Development with donor stewardship initiatives, such as thank-a-thons and mailing projects. Assist the Public Relations Specialist, Sr. with digital and print publications, including flyers, social media and newsletter content, and other marketing materials. Assist OVPSA team in the planning, coordination, and execution of divisional events, including but not limited to: All Staff Gatherings, Careers in Student Affairs Month, Be Kind UNM, and The Pack’s Got Your Back. Support the Vice President and Director of Operations on special projects and assignments which may include but are not limited to division search committees, speaking events, strategic planning, and related initiatives. Work on additional special projects in line with the Division’s Strategic Plan and in support of the Student Affairs Leadership Team. Serve as a liaison to student employees working across 18 Student Affairs units and lead student employee engagement initiatives in alignment with the Division’s Strategic Plan. Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities including job shadowing, networking events, leadership meetings, and weekly supervisor check-ins. This is an on-campus, in-person position from August 2026 to May 2027 that is not eligible for remote or hybrid work.
