About The Position

The Student Relationship Officer (SRO) will be responsible for engaging the Washington State University (WSU) campus in conversations to promote financial literacy and to build the membership and success of the on-campus branches. The SRO will work, with peers, different clubs on campus, and departments/schools to host educational seminars and membership drives. The SRO will be knowledgeable and efficient in establishing new member relationships, providing product and service options, basic consumer lending, and account servicing. An SRO will also encourage positive growth of the credit union by way of participation in campus and surrounding community events. The SRO is a peer-to-peer financial educator and guide, who fosters lifelong and meaningful relationships that empower financial wellness and stability amongst their peers, in their college community, and to execute the Gesa mission. This internship has multiple openings and is scheduled to start on June 1st continuing through the Fall and Spring semesters and following school year.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At the time of hire, must be actively enrolled as a full-time student at Washington State University with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75.
  • Commitment to the entire duration of the full academic year, report for work on time, and maintain attendance.
  • Demonstration of involvement in extra-curricular and community service activities.
  • Experience with standard office equipment, MS Office and Outlook software
  • Customer service and cash handling experience
  • Must comply with all company policies and guidelines.
  • Display respect for diversity. Treat people with respect, keep commitments, and maintain a high level of integrity.
  • Must exhibit professional conduct and a professional image with management, team members, members, and peers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver group presentations on financial literacy through seminars, plan events that execute on-campus promotions and events (i.e., membership drives) to raise awareness of Gesa and the Gesa difference.
  • Execute the Gesa College Partnership by participating in campus activities, representing Gesa at sponsored events, and other external public relations projects.
  • Work with team to develop strategies for bringing in new memberships and supporting new and maintaining existing memberships.
  • Have proficient knowledge to fluidly transition between assisting members with basic transactions (deposits, withdrawals, etc.), establishing new memberships, opening accounts, taking loan applications, account servicing, ATM/ITM usage, virtual banking, and/or problem solving using other resources.
  • Take ownership of member relationships by way of providing exceptional member service and prompt follow-up/resolution to any outstanding questions/concerns of members.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of member information according to regulatory and organization guidelines and policies.
  • Ask questions/interview members about their financial situation and recognize, initiate, and refer (to other internal business partners such as traditional retail branch partners, Commercial, Mortgage and Gesa Investment Services) cross-sell opportunities by sharing the benefits and features of credit union products and services.
  • Perform all monetary transactions on member’s accounts, follow all cash handling procedures, and balance the cash drawer at the end of every day in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Issue and record monetary instruments and file monetary reports in accordance with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).
  • Demonstrate and support credit union values and service standards.
  • Perform all responsibilities in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Control risk and perform duties in a safe and sound manner.
  • Maintain an up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of all credit union products, services, policies, procedures, as well as industry regulations.
  • Attend credit union training sessions, conferences, or seminars if approved by the Branch Leadership.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Gesa brand, products, and services.
  • Always maintain security of the branch by being engaged in and/or aware of branch activities.
  • Engage in weekly team meetings, conference calls, and events as assigned.
  • Ensure the maintenance, cleanliness, and organization of the center.
  • Maintain academic/program activity requirements established by the University and Gesa.
  • Work with minimum support/supervision to resolve problems.
  • Summarize a monthly report of activities for Mentor/Team Leader to review.
