About the Opportunity PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The N.U.in Program is one of Northeastern’s signature first-year experiences and truly embodies the university’s experiential approach to education. Launched in 2007, The N.U.in Program is rooted in our core belief that Northeastern students are curious, adaptable, and agile as they explore the world around them. Through The N.U.in Program, students will have a rigorous academic experience intertwined with unique cultural and social opportunities outside of the classroom. Bolstered by a robust professional support system, this one-semester experience supports students’ growth as global citizens and fine-tunes the skills they need to navigate their future. Students admitted to the N.U .in Program embark on a unique journey. They study abroad in their first semester with other Northeastern first-year students at the N.U .in location of their choice and begin their studies on the Boston campus during their spring semester. Partner universities provide academic courses to the participants while Northeastern staff provide on-site leadership and support services during the program. JOB SUMMARY: Balancing responsibilities between Northeastern and the host institution, the Global Student Success Manager (SSM) ensures students have a cohesive, supportive, and culturally enriching experience, all while maintaining open lines of communication and upholding the standards and values of both educational institutions. The SSM works collaboratively to support the safety and wellbeing of students and contribute to the development and overall success of the students and the program. Responsibilities may vary based on site placement, the needs of students, internal and external partners, and Student Life initiatives. The Student Success Manager (SSM) role is a temporary (July to December) full-time, benefits-eligible position requiring the person in this role to live on-site with students for at least 4 months at an N.U.in location. International housing is provided while on site. Additionally, the SSM will be expected to attend two or more weeks of in-person training on campus in Boston in July; housing and travel will be covered by Northeastern for this period. The SSM directly supervise s a full-time team of Global Student Success Coordinators, who also live on site. Non-traditional work hours may be throughout the employment term.

Requirements

  • This highly demanding position requires a significant amount of patience, flexibility, assertiveness, diplomacy, self-initiative, as well as experience working in fast-paced and ambiguous environments.
  • This position requires an individual prepared to navigate the personal and professional intricacies of staff, students, and the diverse needs of two institutions within a study abroad context.
  • Knowledge and skills for this position are typically obtained through a bachelor’s degree and three to five years of demonstrated student life experience or higher education experience in a residence life or student affairs capacity.
  • Experience with supervision, leading teams, and managing teams
  • Experience living, working, or studying abroad, or demonstrated equivalent transitionary periods/experiences
  • Experience working closely with high school or undergraduate students (in a counselor, residence life, student affairs, or related role)
  • Experience with crisis management, mediation, and conflict resolution
  • Flexibility and demonstrated ability to excel in fast-paced environments, navigate ambiguity, and take actions that satisfy diverse interests
  • Pr oven ability to coordinate and manage events for large groups with enthusiasm and attention to detail
  • Proven ability to work well under challenging conditions, demonstrate sound judgement, and take actions that satisfy diverse or competing interests while achieving programmatic goals
  • Fluent in English.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain any required work authorization for the duration of appointment and work location assignments (Northeastern will assist in this process .)

Responsibilities

  • Attend a mandatory 2-3 week training program on campus in Boston , preceded and followed by online training prior to departure to site
  • L ead or co-lead small group sessions for assigned site team (with guidance)
  • Participate in p re- d eparture s tudent o rientation a ctivities
  • Participate in evening and weekend social activities.
  • Live on-site at assigned student housing location or residence, and act as the primary point of contact for students and staff while overseeing safety and security during emergencies and other student incidents
  • Serve as part of a 24/7 on-call rotation.
  • Supervise, support, and evaluate a team of Student Success Coordinators in all aspects of their professional development and needs.
  • Serve as a liaison with staff and faculty from the host institution, and Student Life and Global Experience Office (GEO) Central staff through regular meetings and oral and/or written reports
  • Serve as the point of contact for conduct, health, and wellness concerns.
  • Work i n partnership with the GEO site lead, manag ing and track ing quality and diversity of academic, social, and cultural programs.
  • Encourage student academic success, respond to student concerns, and connect students to on-site and Boston-based academic, medical, and mental health resources.
  • Oversee student conduct process
  • W ork non-traditional hours as needed , including evenings and weekends, supporting student programming and attending to the safety and wellbeing of students.
  • Work with both institutions to co-design orientation, cultural immersion, and academic support programs that incorporate Northeastern’s values with the host institution’s resources and expertise
