Clients/Families we serve reside in the South Los Angeles, Compton, Watts and Lynwood area. SHIELDS’ mission is to develop, deliver and evaluate culturally sensitive, comprehensive service models that empower and advocate for high-risk families in South Los Angeles. SHIELDS ARK Program serves adults with substance use disorders. Participants are part of the general community, General Relief (GR), AB 109 re-entry, or Drug Court programs. Additionally, the ARK program serves adults with an open DCFS case and adults on probation or parole. The Ark is certified by the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs (ADP) and is licensed to operate in Lynwood. The SUD Counselor provides linkage, resources, and referrals to other community based service. This includes providing individual, family, and group counseling. The SUD Counselor is responsible for maintaining a working knowledge of existing local private and public community programs, the services they provide, and their eligibility requirements. Requirements

  • MUST BE A REGISTERED or CERTIFIED as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor with a state approved certifying agency.
  • C.A.C., RADT or equivalent experience in drug treatment in a social service environment.
  • A valid California driver's license is required for this position, as driving is an essential function of the role and is required for field work, client crisis response and emergencies.
  • A current automobile insurance is required.
  • 6 months experience
  • COVID-19 vaccination required.
  • May request medical or religious exemption if applicable.
  • The employee in this position must be able to perform this job safely, without endangering the health or safety of him/herself or others.
