About The Position

Our Summer Internship Program offers temporary, full-time (35 hours per week) employment from June 1, 2026, through August 7, 2026. Work Location: 30-30 Thomson Avenue, LIC, NY 11101 As the City's primary capital construction project manager, DDC builds many of the civic facilities New Yorkers use every day. We provide communities with new or renovated structures such as firehouses, libraries, police precincts, courthouses, senior centers and more. We also improve vital infrastructure. Our staff delivers roadway, sewer, and water main construction projects in all five boroughs. We provide sidewalks, street reconstruction, water mains, sewers, and pedestrian ramps quality infrastructure that is essential for a healthy, resilient city. DDC’s Summer Internship Program is an opportunity for a select group of students to gain valuable experience in the architecture, engineering, design, safety, and construction management professions within a public service context. Students will gain hands-on technical experience through specific field assignments or task specific office work and a mentoring relationship with senior-level technical staff. They will also have the opportunity, through a combination of seminars, site visits, and on-the-job training, to learn about the challenges of upgrading and constructing the City’s public buildings and street infrastructure. The Engineering Audit Office (EAO) independently audits and certifies all approved contract and contract change (change order) payments requested for work performed for construction, equipment, and related consultant services by DDC contractors and consultants prior to payments by the City of New York. The office includes the Audit Unit and the Prevailing Wage Unit. The responsibilities of undergraduate Engineering Audit Office Summer Interns will include, but are not limited to, the following:

Requirements

  • As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
  • Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position.
  • Applicants are responsible for ensuring that they meet all qualifying requirements for this position, at the time of application.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the review of construction payment requisitions and change orders by examining supporting documentation and backup materials under supervision.
  • Assist with the review of contract documents, including construction drawings, technical specifications, and consultant agreements, to support audit activities.
  • Support prevailing wage and labor compliance reviews by assisting with the review of certified payroll records and related documentation.
  • Participate in field visits with Engineering Auditors to active construction sites to observe work in progress and gain exposure to public construction projects.
  • Perform general administrative and analytical support tasks, including organizing files, tracking review comments, and assisting with data entry and documentation.
