About The Position

The City of Newton is hiring seasonal summer workers! Interested candidate must be at least 17 years old. These positions work 40 hours per week. Wages start at $14.10 per hour; seasonal employees receive an increase each summer you work with us. Below are the opportunities we have available:

Street Division:

Assist in the preparation and placement of asphalt, concrete, and slurry seal; aid in managing traffic control needed to perform such tasks.
Clean job sites, tools, and equipment.
Work in various weather conditions.
Use hand tools, power tools, shovels, ground compactor, and concrete saws.

Water/Wastewater:

Mow all plant grounds, wells, and transmissions lines as needed; perform edging, trimming, and general clean-up.
Clean well houses.
Paint and touch-up.
Assist with cemetery clean up prior to Memorial day services.
Assist with PWWSD#17 maintenance (groundskeeping, cleaning).
General cleaning and sweeping at water towers.

Parks:

Mow, weedeat, and edge all parks, cemeteries, and public property.
Plant flowers and maintain flowers, shrubs, and tree health.
Clean public restrooms.
Pick up litter and dump trash receptacles.
Prep for community events.
Perform playground maintenance.
Perform minor equipment maintenance.
Maintain vegetation control through pulling and spray applications.
Paint.
