About The Position

PG&E is seeking an experienced business professional to lead the Electric Incident Investigations (EII) Team. The EII team is responsible for reporting Electric Incidents (EIRs) to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), investigating EIRs and areas of compliance risk to determine the cause and any corrective or preventive measures to mitigate reoccurrence. As the Supervisor of Incident Investigations, you oversee investigations tied to safety events, operational failures, and potential regulatory risk. You ensure that every investigation, from Electric Incident Reports (EIRs) to major operational events, is handled with consistency, objectivity, and rigor. With deep technical and regulatory expertise, you bring a structured approach to root cause analysis, corrective action development, and defensible documentation that strengthens PG&E’s safety culture and compliance posture. Your work reinforces PG&E’s commitment that Everyone and Everything is Always Safe, advancing enterprise learning, transparency, and continuous improvement across investigations. Location of this position is flexible within PG&E service territory and will require occasional travel to other areas around PG&E’s service territory. This position is hybrid, working from an assigned office three days a week and your remote office the remainder of the week. The selected candidate must live within PG&E’s service territory.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5 years of experience in auditing or quality assurance
  • 2 years supervisory or project/team lead experience
  • Travel is approximately 40% with occasional overnight stays

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Expertise with electric operation systems (data systems within electric operations).
  • Knowledge of operations, maintenance, and engineering program processes and procedures.
  • Certification in Root Cause Analysis (e.g., TapRooT®, Cause Mapping, or equivalent)
  • Professional Certified Investigator (PCI – ASIS)
  • Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI)
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.)

Responsibilities

  • Perform Technical Review of Electric Incident Investigations of varying risk. Manage team to prepare and submit Electric Incident Reports and Apparent Cause Evaluations (ACEs), including identifying corrective actions and gaining consensus with senior leadership to mitigate risk.
  • Manage team to identify and summarize compliance risk concerns, including forecasting potential Notices of Violation (NOVs) from the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC).
  • Manage team to prepare and submit responses to NOVs received by the CPUC.
  • Manage team to investigate issues of medium to high risk to PG&E, including working with PG&Es Legal team. Prepare and present summary of findings and risk to PG&E to senior and executive leaders.
  • Develops and maintains the compliance evidence record and repository. Oversee staff specialized in this function.
  • Works on special projects and process improvement initiatives in Electric Operations as they relate to compliance programs, such as benchmarking best practices in the industry and implementing recommended improvements. Assesses and determines potential impacts. Recommends responses to challenges.
  • Presents to executives on programmatic details in response to risk management requests, regulatory items, and other external communications.
  • Determines most effective department metrics to measure performance against annual or longer-term goals and objectives for time bound projects or ongoing operational work. Regularly presents department scorecard to senior management and adjusts based on business needs.
  • Responsible for the regulatory compliance of the department’s programs, which may include meeting on a regular basis with Legal, Regulatory Relations, and the CPUC, and formal investigation and response to Data Requests and Notices of Violation. Work with regulators and other internal LOBs to ensure department meets regulatory rule changes, updating supporting processes as appropriate.
  • Effectively maneuver through complex organizational situations without disruption, routinely resolving escalations to Director-level, Vice President-level and above.
  • Manages staff to accomplish results through effective recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management and rewards and recognition.
