About The Position

Suncoast Behavioral Health Center provides quality mental health care and education services for adolescents, ages 11–17 who are experiencing behavioral, emotional, educational, family and social challenges. The dedicated professionals at Suncoast Behavioral Health Center provide quality mental health treatment for children. The program establishes healthy behaviors and prepares children to transition back home. The Facility is looking for a Shift Supervisor. The Shift Supervisor performs supervisory functions and direct patient care duties in a residential behavioral health setting. The Shift Supervisor is responsible for direct supervision of the Lead/Mental Health Technicians, ensuring that direct care and unit tasks are being performed according to facility policy. The Shift Supervisor assists patients in treatment, recreation, educational settings, and other activities of daily living to assess changes in their social behaviors and clinical status. Supervisory functions include but are not limited to: ensuring the program schedule is being followed, assignment of unit tasks, and ensuring facility policies are enforced. The Shift Supervisor handles all MHT call offs, enforces holdovers and schedules replacement with Per Diems or Fulltime staff as needed; and has the authority to adjust staffing as necessary per facility policy. The Shift Supervisor will help coordinate all psychiatric codes, whether real or mock, and ensure they are carried out appropriately and safely. The Shift Supervisor notifies the CEO, AOC of facility updates or specific Director of any urgent facility issues (i.e. kitchen or reception staff call offs/no shows). The Shift Supervisor will be in ratio as needed. The Shift Supervisor will also be required to be a Handle with Care and Verbal De-Escalation facility trainer.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Minimum one to three years previous psychiatric/behavioral direct care experience in a psychiatric hospital setting as a Mental Health Tech working with children and adolescents.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Verification of absence of criminal record on local, state and federal levels.
  • Must be able to maintain composure under stressful situations while upholding facility mission and vision.
  • Working with patients in their natural environments may require you to lift or move approximately 50 lbs. and be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, sitting, and standing) for extended periods.
  • Fully participate with a team to safely restrain or seclude patients as necessary.
  • Must be able to participate in and complete Handle With Care Training on an annual basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in psychology or related field preferred.
  • At least three to five years of staff experience preferred.
