About The Position

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co. a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [SC00] Work location is Akron, OH with the opportunity to work remote on either Monday or Friday each week per company policy. The Summer 2026 session will take place from May 18th, 2026 – August 21st, 2026. As a participant in the Co-op/Intern Professional Development Program, you will be cultivating professional skills and perform professional level work at FirstEnergy. Each participant will receive on-the-job training, mentoring, experiential learning and challenging assignments to refine skills and round out competencies. As a Supply Chain Operational Buyer Intern at FirstEnergy, you will play a meaningful role in advancing our Strategic Sourcing, Procurement, and Category Management operations. Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in Supply Chain Management or related field at an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Must have a graduation date not earlier than May 2028
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with data analysis or procurement systems is a plus.
  • A proactive, curious mindset with a strong desire to learn, problem‑solve, and build professional relationships.
  • Understanding of basic research methodologies and the ability to synthesize findings for leadership‑level presentations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the confidence to present to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain high attention to detail.
  • Strong teamwork orientation with a commitment to workplace safety.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to approach challenges creatively.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting cross‑functional business units by executing procurement activities, including purchasing of materials/services and assisting in strategic category management initiatives.
  • Collaborating with Operational Buyers, Category Specialists, and Sourcing Managers to execute high‑volume transactions such as purchase orders (POs), change orders, and statements of work, ensuring alignment with procurement best practices and internal policies.
  • Partnering effectively across multiple supply chain functions and organizational levels to facilitate smooth procurement operations.
  • Assisting in high‑value sourcing events, including competitive bidding, supplier evaluations, and contract negotiations.
  • Performing tasks within Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) such as contract archival, document management, and compliance verification.
  • Helping to strategically convert material purchase requests to existing preferred supplier contracts to drive cost savings and procurement efficiency.
  • Supporting leadership and team members through business research, data gathering, analytics, report compilation, and insights development.
  • Providing strong internal stakeholder support, building relationships, and contributing to operational excellence within the supply chain organization.
