About The Position

ASRT, Inc. provides scientific, information management, management consulting, bioinformatics, and administrative program support to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other Federal and private sector clients. The successful candidate will be a full-time employee of ASRT, Inc. and will be assigned to the Meningitis and Vaccine Preventable Diseases (MVPDB), National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD), at the CDC, 1600 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA, to serve as a liaison between CDC stakeholders regarding activities/studies related to vaccine preventable diseases.

SCOPE OF WORK
The Surveillance Coordinator I will serve as a liaison between CDC, state health departments, and laboratory personnel to conduct activities/studies related to vaccine preventable diseases.

Requirements

• Degree in a life science discipline
• Bachelor of Science with 3-5 years of experience in a similar role
• Master of Science or Master of Public Health with 1-3 years of experience in a similar role
• Communications skills demonstrating clear, rapid and accurate dissemination of information related to the conduct of infectious disease surveillance.
• Organizational skills demonstrating high attention to detail and the ability to organize multiple priorities related to the conduct of surveillance activities and advocacy groups.
• Strong interpersonal skills required for team work and interaction with people across CDC and with external partners.
• Ability to work with large databases.
• Advanced MS Access skills.
• The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
• Must be United States citizen or permanent resident or have authorization for employment in the United States.

Nice To Haves

• Familiar with molecular and microbiological laboratory techniques.
• Previous work with or extensive research in meningitis.
• Experience working with infectious disease surveillance systems at the state or federal level.
• Experience writing project reports, research protocols, SOPs and manuscripts.
• Ability to synthesize new ideas for project research.

Responsibilities

• Assist with data management of incoming epidemiologic data and laboratory results, ensuring data quality, and compiling and analyzing surveillance data
• Participate in outbreak responses in the field as needed and assist Branch epidemiologists with IRB approvals and other scientific activities
• Coordinate communication with internal and external partners
• Manage and coordinate a variety of special projects (domestic and global) within MVPDB
• Provide analytic support to epidemiology and laboratory staff on projects related to vaccine preventable diseases
• Assist with drafting manuscripts, presentations and policy notes related to vaccine preventable diseases
• Participate in periodic site visits to surveillance and study sites
• Develop surveillance materials and documentation
• Travel domestically and internationally as needed, to complete the above duties and responsibilities.
• Maintain study/surveillance data and ensuring high data quality standards.
• Serve as point of contact and subject matter expert for study/surveillance data.
• Assist with capacity building for disease surveillance and reporting.
• Develop and study/surveillance materials and documentation, such as protocols, data dictionaries, data collection forms, etc.
• Develop a data management system for the pertussis laboratory that can be linked to existing epidemiologic case surveillance data maintained at CDC and by our external partners.
• Data management and analysis of complex surveillance and study data.
• Works with epidemiologic and laboratory staff to create analytic files for branch projects.
• Coordinate communication with internal and external partners.
• Organize, develop agendas for, and participating in and/or leading meetings and conference calls.
• Prepare written reports and slide presentations summarizing surveillance and study data.
• Presentation of data at scientific conferences.
• Assist with writing manuscripts for both epidemiologic and laboratory-based studies;
• Participate in outbreak response in the field.
• Assist with Human Subjects Research approvals and with other scientific aspects of branch activities under the direction of staff epidemiologists.
• Provide support to the CDC EOC for agency response activities when the EOC is activated.
• Provide support for CDC pandemic activities.
