This position will be remote but must live within a commutable distance to the Washington, DC metro area to support future on site trips to Beltsville, MD and occasional trips to Silver Spring, MD and Reston, VA Key Role: We are seeking a junior Systems Administrator / Cloud Engineer to become part of the website support team for a government client through enterprise infrastructure operations, modernization, and cloud migration initiatives. This role will be responsible for maintaining on-premises systems, supporting hybrid cloud environments, and implementing infrastructure automation using modern DevOps tools. The work will be performed to support the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). This position will be remote but must live within a commutable distance to the Washington, DC metro area to support future on site trips to Beltsville, MD and occasional trips to Silver Spring, MD and Reston, VA.

Requirements

  • 2–4 years of experience in network engineering, cloud engineering, or a related technical role.
  • Hands-on experience supporting AWS environments, including VPCs, subnets, route tables, security groups, and IAM.
  • Foundational understanding of networking concepts such as TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, routing, and firewalls.
  • Experience troubleshooting connectivity issues across hybrid (on-premises and cloud) environments.
  • Experience with patch management technologies such as IBM BigFix.
  • Experience with Linux such as Ubuntu.
  • Familiarity with O365 and Entra.
  • Familiarity with NIST Special Publications controls and guidelines (e.g. USGCB).
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs, bend, stretch, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, reach, twist, sit, and/or walk.
  • U.S citizenship required with the ability to pass a Government background investigation. An active security clearance is preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in a computer science or related field is preferred.
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner or Associate-level certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
  • Experience with Linux is a plus.
  • Network+, A+, AWS, or other applicable certifications are viewed favorably.
  • Knowledge of following the technologies is preferred, but not required: SSL, IIS, SQL Server, Microsoft SharePoint, Mailman, Postfix and ColdFusion.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily system monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance tuning
  • Administer Windows Server and/or Linux environments
  • Apply security patches and software updates
  • Document system configurations, processes, and procedures
  • Provide desktop support for local and remote staff through face-to-face, voice and online communications techniques.
  • Collaborate on network policies and procedures.
