BAE Systems is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Closed Area Systems Administrator to join our Information Technology team supporting classified environments. This individual will work with a dynamic team responsible for the configuration, maintenance, and security of IT systems housed in closed areas, supporting critical national defense programs. As a key member of the IT support organization, you will play a vital role in managing and maintaining classified computing infrastructure while ensuring strict adherence to security compliance requirements such as RMF, NIST 800-53, and JSIG. In this System Adminstrator II position supporting our closed areas you will make impacts in the following ways; Perform user account administration, group policy configuration, and role-based access control in Active Directory for a classified environment. Provide desktop systems administration, including imaging, configuration, troubleshooting, and secure application support. Manage and monitor virtual server instances (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V), ensuring uptime, performance, and resource allocation. Lead and track monthly OS and application patching across desktops and servers, ensuring full compliance with security baselines and STIGs. Maintain domain health, DNS/DHCP, and group policy objects within Active Directory. Support system logging, event correlation, and incident response efforts within the closed area. Collaborate with ISSOs and security staff to ensure all system changes comply with RMF and local security policies. Maintain thorough system documentation, configuration baselines, and change logs. Support classified system accreditation activities and audits as needed. Additional information: • This role requires 100% onsite work in a secure, closed area—remote or hybrid options are not available • Work may occasionally require after-hours support for patching or security-related events • Must be capable of lifting/moving equipment (up to 40 lbs) and performing physical tasks within secure rooms

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Active Secret Security Clearance and CompTIA Security+ or equivalent DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification.
  • 3–6 years of experience (2+ years of experience with a degree) as a systems administrator.
  • Proficiency in Active Directory, including user/group management, OU structure, and GPOs.
  • Hands-on experience with desktop system support (Windows OS, Red Hat Linux) and endpoint hardening.
  • Experience managing virtualized server environments (VMware or Hyper-V).
  • Familiarity with monthly patching procedures, SCCM/WSUS, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Strong documentation skills and familiarity with change/configuration management practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Active U.S. TS/SCI Security Clearance.
  • 2+ years of experience working in a classified environment
  • Experience with secure system build processes and STIG compliance.
  • Working knowledge of RMF, NISPOM, and JSIG/ICD 503 requirements.
  • Familiarity with backup and recovery tools in classified environments.
  • Exposure to scripting (PowerShell, Python, Bash) for automation and task optimization.
  • Experience supporting secure enclaves, air-gapped systems, or cross-domain solutions.
