About The Position

The Bethel School District is seeking teacher applicants who have the potential to be leaders and innovative educators. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to deliver instruction based upon best available research and practices in teaching and learning. The teacher works with student/trainees ages 18-21 with developmental disabilities, their families, specialists, and community resources/partners providing comprehensive services. Provides system-wide leadership and direction for the coordination and implementation of transition plans for students with disabilities for successful post-school outcomes.

Requirements

  • Valid and appropriate certificate and endorsements for Washington State required.
  • Special Education endorsement required.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective classroom management.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully employ effective teaching methods.
  • Demonstrated desire and ability to work and communicate effectively with staff, students/trainees, parents, community and business members from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational certification preferred.
  • Assessment knowledge - testing, interest surveys, build profiles and portfolios.
  • Knowledge of grant writing.
  • Ability to analyze tasks and develop appropriate strategies for work placement and monitoring workplace competencies.
  • School to work transition philosophy/integration.
  • Knowledge and implementation of career pathways and assessments.
  • Establish ability to supervise and monitor classified job crew assistants, job shadowing/placement.
  • Ability to work with community and businesses to create opportunities for special needs student employment experiences.
  • Ability to write IEPs, provide guidance in IEP writing, and manage case loads compliantly.
  • Ability to work unsupervised in the community.
  • Knowledge of special education transition.
  • Ability to develop special education curriculum that works with special needs adults.
  • Knowledge of post-secondary agencies and ability to work collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of progress monitoring.
