The Technical Analyst plays a key role in generating actionable data to support decisions related to sales and marketing, new business opportunities, and the overall strategic direction of the company. This role will creatively provide a basis for decisions on niche markets where more traditional sales and marketing information is not readily available. The Technical Analyst will have the ability to generate, manipulate, and analyze large data sets. Although the location of the position is in Newton, NJ, from time to time it may be required to undertake duties at other Thorlabs locations.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in marketing, business development, or product line management, or a similar role.
  • B.S. in a photonics related field required; graduate degree or equivalent experience in a photonics-related science or engineering discipline is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written presentation skills with the ability to influence and educate.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office and other communication tools. (advanced user of Excel).
  • Basic proficiency in Power BI.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to multitask, be detail oriented, and creatively solve problems, all while under time constraints.
  • Eagerness to learn about new photonics technologies and applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of MS Dynamics 365 a plus.
  • Knowledge of programming languages, such as R or Python, a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct technical market research in Photonics, Semiconductor, Medical Device, Datacom, and other key market segments.
  • Identify sales and marketing opportunities for Thorlabs’ various product lines.
  • Monitor industry statistics and follow trends in scientific and trade literature.
  • Seek and provide information to determine Thorlabs’ position in the marketplace.
  • Measure effectiveness of business strategies or practices.
  • Forecast and track marketing and sales trends, utilizing statistical analysis, financial modeling, and market research.
  • Gather data on competitors and analyze their prices, sales, products, and financials.
  • Prepare data and modeling to support pricing strategies.
  • Prepare reports, presenting complex findings graphically or through written text.
  • Work with stakeholders from executive management, business units, and sales/marketing to define data needs and inform decision making.
  • Participate in special projects related to Thorlabs’ business strategies.
  • Meeting company standards pertaining to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis, performing all work-related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Company policies and procedures.
  • Adhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments.
