About The Position

The Technical Sales Specialist supports the sales organization by providing deep technical expertise across IPG’s packaging solutions, including shrink films, stretch films, protective packaging, tape heads, and carton closure equipment. This role partners with sales, engineering, R&D, operations, and customers to ensure optimal product performance, drive sales growth, and deliver IPG’s value proposition in the marketplace.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate Degree in Business or technical-related discipline required or equivalent years of experience.
  • 2-4+ years in technical sales, application engineering, or packaging operations; hands-on experience with shrink/stretch film applications and packaging equipment/consumable required
  • Ability to present technical concepts to non-technical people.
  • Strong problem solver with organizational and analytical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with minimum direction.
  • Strong team player.
  • Dependable and self-motivated.

  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must have the ability to lift 50 lbs. or less, carrying and lifting tools and parts weighing up to 20 lbs.
  • Must be able to bend, squat, walk, stand and/or sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • May be required to push and pull a cart with equipment weighing up to 50lbs.
  • Must be able to travel 50% of the time by vehicle or air travel as required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license to operate a vehicle and Real ID or Passport to aid travel.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain expert-level knowledge of IPG products, including polyolefin shrink films, stretch films, protective packaging, tape heads, carton closure equipment, and related packaging technologies.
  • Clearly communicate product features, capabilities, benefits, and value to customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Stay current on packaging technology advancements, industry trends, and new use cases.
  • Partner with Corporate Account Managers, Territory Business Managers, Business Development Specialists, and sales leadership to identify customer needs, develop solutions, and support closing sales opportunities.
  • Participate in customer meetings to provide technical guidance on product application, equipment performance, implementation, and best practices.
  • Demonstrate equipment and machine capabilities confidently and effectively for end users and distributors.
  • Support end-user and distributor opportunities as assigned, helping drive revenue and Net CM$ goals.
  • Maintain and develop strong relationships with distributors, end users, and equipment manufacturers.
  • Assist in developing, defining, and documenting technical selling best practices, including value analysis, quarterly reviews, time studies, cost-saving programs, corporate reporting, and end-user training programs.
  • Mentor and train field service team and support ongoing capability development across the commercial team.
  • Collaborate with sales and cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of commercial and technical requirements for opportunities and projects.
  • Work closely with Sales Management, R&D, Engineering, and Operations to communicate technical needs, customer requirements, and commercial considerations.
  • Act as a field-based feedback loop to support product development, improvement, and innovation efforts.
  • Gather customer feedback, sales insights, and requests for product development consideration.
  • Monitor and report competitive activity, including new product introductions, price updates, and competitive shifts.
  • Proactively engage with packaging equipment suppliers to understand equipment performance, compatibility, and optimization with IPG products.
  • Work the sales organization to source leads, identify potential customers, uncover service opportunities, and develop incremental revenue streams aligned to overall company objectives (with emphasis on shrink film growth where applicable).
  • Actively participate in team meetings, calls, and training sessions; provide input on complex opportunities.
  • Related tasks as requested by supervisor.
