Summary: The Technical Trainer is responsible for hands-on wastewater technical training for the Operations and/or Maintenance Departments.   This role involves assessing training needs, creating curriculum and materials and conducting sessions to improve employee competency.  Overtime and flexible work schedule to support shift employees may be required on an as needed basis and with prior approval from the Chief Human Resources Officer.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required, completion of two (2) years of college preferred.
  • Two (2) years progressively responsible work experience, including specialized training in wastewater treatment, physical sciences or engineering or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities desired.
  • Virginia Wastewater Works Class 1 license and/or ABC Plant Maintenance Technologist Class III certification, or ability to obtain within two years of employment preferred.
  • Organization skills, ability to organize data and plan, to work autonomously while prioritizing and multi-tasking several assignments; project management skills and ability to effectively balance multiple projects.
  • Analytical thinking, ability to conduct research and analyze various forms of data.
  • Problem-solving skills, ability to troubleshoot and devise alternative strategy.
  • Attention to detail, ability to deal with various staff and data related to them.
  • Interpersonal skills, ability to influence to help others develop and grow.
  • Collaboration and communication skills, ability to actively engage and collaborate with all staff and external consultants.
  • Must have a strong work ethic, a can-do attitude, the desire to be a team player, be proactive and suggest ideas for easier processes for more efficiency.
  • High degree of professionalism includes the ability to handle sensitive/confidential material.
  • Strong computer skills including working knowledge of learning management systems, content creation software and intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Good to excellent writing skills and ability to use various written communication tools.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles includes how to successfully train and present.

Nice To Haves

  • Virginia Wastewater Works Class 1 license and/or ABC Plant Maintenance Technologist Class III certification, or ability to obtain within two years of employment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a key hands-on trainer for Operations and/or Maintenance.
  • Conducts or assists with recurring training sessions for all technicians to attend to include the development of training presentations and public speaking.
  • Continually seeks to solve problems and improve the performance of the facility and the skill set of the technicians.
  • Works closely with other departments as needed to update related training materials.
  • Ensure that all training materials are accurate and accessible
  • Plan, track, and deliver training to all technicians
  • Assess effectiveness of training
  • Support continuous learning culture
  • Works with and backs up the Learning and Talent Development Specialist as needed.
  • Actively always promotes safe behaviors and health awareness in the execution of daily tasks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
