Note: benefits eligibility may be based on employment status, tenure, location, or other factors Classification: non-exempt/hourly Location: Kansas City, MO Job Summary: The DC Power Technician L3 executes the installation, upgrade, and removal of DC power equipment including rectifiers, batteries, and power cabinets, under the direction of the Lead DC power technician. This role installs and terminates ground cables, constructs supporting DC power infrastructure, and assists the leads with complex power cable terminations. The L3 Technician supports project coordination as assigned, interfacing with customers and field representatives to confirm requirements and ensure quality and compliance across the work of less experienced technicians.

Requirements

  • High school diploma.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in hands-on UPS and DC battery services installing -48V and +24V standalone power systems.
  • Work experience in ISO/TL 9000 certified operations.
  • Interpret electrical line diagrams and blueprints to support accurate installation and troubleshooting.
  • Apply a solid understanding of Ohm’s law and core electronic theory in fieldwork and testing activities.
  • Demonstrate developing proficiency with battery and UPS maintenance/testing equipment (e.g., cellcorder, hydrometers, DVM, ammeter, load test equipment).
  • Build foundational knowledge of UPS electrical theory and the electro-chemical properties of battery systems.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and assess their potential application in customer environments.
  • Install, replace, and maintain battery plants (VRLA, wet cells, NiCADs, alternative systems) when delegated by the Lead.
  • Perform BDFB/BDCBB installations and battery growth activities in accordance with technical specifications.
  • Lead daily work activities for lower-level Technicians under the direction of the Lead and step in when the Lead is not onsite.
  • Provide guidance to ensure accuracy, quality, and adherence to safety and work standards across assigned tasks.
  • Operate equipment and perform work in a safe manner in accordance with OSHA regulations and published safety guidelines.
  • Evaluate site conditions—including environmental temperature and general operating environment—to ensure safe and compliant work execution.
  • Recommend changes to work methods, equipment use, or processes to improve efficiency, production quality, and team performance.
  • Identify and communicate opportunities to enhance working conditions and support operational effectiveness.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work outdoors, on ladders, and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work with and around electrical wires and components and/or ESD products.
  • Ability to work remotely at construction or installation sites.
  • Frequent travel, which may include extended periods, including several consecutive weeks, with minimal advance notice.
  • Shift work may be required based on operational needs, including overnight hours during maintenance windows and overtime as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in electrical or engineering-related field is preferred; relevant military training may be considered in lieu of formal education.

Responsibilities

  • Install DC power systems, including rectifiers, UPS units, and battery plants, according to customer and manufacturer specifications, in coordination with the Lead.
  • Execute upgrades and replacements for primary and secondary distribution equipment (PBDs, BDFBs, BDCBBs, inverters, converters).
  • Read and interpret detailed engineering specifications to support the installation of 24VDC, 48VDC, 130VDC, and UPS battery plants.
  • Install ironwork and cable racks while adhering to Zone 4 environmental requirements.
  • Run, lace, and terminate power cables, including crimping lugs and completing associated DC power installation and maintenance tasks.
  • Troubleshoot, test, and inspect DC systems (rectifier, UPS, and battery) in partnership with the Lead.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance activities in alignment with company standards and customer requirements.
  • Coordinate manpower needs—with the Lead—by adjusting staffing levels and overtime to meet shifting project conditions.
  • Estimate, requisition, and inspect materials to ensure availability and compliance with project specifications.
  • Assist with interpreting project requirements and monitoring installation progress when the Lead is not onsite.
  • Provide direction to less experienced Technicians during installation activities to ensure accuracy, quality, and adherence to work standards.
  • Train, coach, and support skill development to drive performance, morale, and a productive work environment.
  • Establish and adjust work procedures to meet production schedules and quality expectations in collaboration with the Lead.
  • Enforce company policies and OSHA safety regulations to maintain a safe and compliant worksite.
  • Promote adherence to work standards and safe operating practices across all assigned personnel.
