Brandeis University Precollege Programs seeks an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and flexible Assistant Director for its well-known Genesis program. The assistant director will work 60 – 70 remote hours, beginning June 1. During the summer, the Assistant Director will work directly under the supervision of the Genesis Director. This is a residential position and requires the Assistant Director to live in Genesis dormitories. The hourly rate for this position is $27.53, 40 hour work week. Academic year (60 – 70 hours starting June 1; can be done remotely) The Assistant Director will: Create and/or update a guide for students outlining all aspects of religious life on campus, including key words and definitions (eruv, kashrut etc). Kashrut/Eating and keeping kosher, prayer before/after meals. Shabbat observance (variety of practices; what we do/don’t do). Tefillah (what we offer and when). Work with Hillel staff to ensure implementation of eruv. Design a 25 hour orientation for Community Educators, covering all relevant aspects of curriculum, residential life, health and behavioral concerns, student honor code, boundaries and reporting procedures. Contact Community Educators prior to the start of Genesis, to approve and confirm Nesiyot (mini-courses) and Kavanot (spiritual practice) confirm learning goals, curriculum, supply list and schedules. Assist Program Director with organizing supplies and materials on campus. Summer: In collaboration with the Program Director, oversee all aspects of Jewish life in Genesis. This includes: Shabbat programming and experiences, informal afternoon and evening programming, field trips and other activities as indicated by the Program Director. Supervise Community Educators, including orientation and implementation of Nesiyot and Kavanot, including individual and group supervision, troubleshooting and managing health and behavioral issues that emerge from the Community Educators’ work. Work with Community Educators to coordinate students’ design and implementation of Shabbat services and Shabbat programming. This includes: Making sure all aspects of student-led Shabbat experiences are planned in advance, all supplies procured and organized and that Shabbat schedules are planned, printed and distributed to all students by Friday breakfast. Print large copies of the Shabbat schedule for Teaching Assistants to post in dorms. Lead all Shabbat activities on the first weekend of the session, with the assistance of the Community Educators. Provide spiritual guidance to participants. Provide all-day coverage of Genesis once per week, during director’s absence. Assist Program Director with student concerns. Distribute evening prescription medications.
