Water scheduling, distribution, and delivery work activities include field and office work necessary to schedule, distribute, and deliver irrigation water to users in the proper amount and on-time. Operations and Maintenance activities include assisting crew leaders and others in accomplishing assigned work. Zanjero/Trades Helpers will be assigned to Operations or Maintenance as needed. Any one position may not include all duties nor do the example of duties include all tasks, which may be found in the position of this class.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
  • From “1” to “2”, requires minimum of 6 months experience in operations, 12 months in classification.
  • From “2” to “Senior”, requires minimum of 12 months experience in operations of which one month will be working directly with a Zanjero Scheduler or can demonstrate minimum scheduling abilities, 24 months in classification, and a valid CDL.
  • Senior Zanjero/Trades Helper must demonstrate minimum water scheduling abilities or equivalent experience.
  • Must possess the appropriate valid Arizona driver’s license.
  • Appropriate respirator medical certification, fit test and training required.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the safety of themselves and others, in the performance of work in a cost effective manner.
  • May be assigned to other cost centers which may require different shifts and days off during certain work load periods including Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Loads, unloads, handles and works with various types of construction and maintenance materials.
  • Operates various types of equipment such as pumps, blowers, chain saws, jackhammers, etc.
  • Uses and accounts for small tools common to carpentry and masonry as well as shovels, picks, and other tools of labor.
  • Mixes and applies mastics, epoxies, concrete, plaster, mortar and other aggregate materials.
  • Assists leadsmen in laying pipe, building headwalls, building forms, placing and finishing concrete.
  • Under minimal supervision, is directly responsible for the daily performance of work in the scheduling, distribution, and delivery of irrigation water to users in the proper amount and on time.
  • Operates, adjusts, opens and closes delivery gates, canal and lateral facilities; and starts and stops Association pumping plants under strict time limitations.
  • Frequent and accurate measurement of water is an on-going and integral part of this position.
  • Responsible for observing, taking action if necessary, and reporting all needed maintenance, repair and replacement concerning those facilities under the Zanjero’s control.
  • This periodically includes light maintenance on schedule boards, distribution structures and works, and the painting and numbering of same.
  • Required to operate a motor vehicle equipped with mobile communication and outfitted with specialized tools for water measurement, facility cleaning and related work.
  • Will be required to respond to flooding calls and take appropriate action to alleviate condition and to minimize damage to public property and project facilities.
  • Employee will be required to document actions taken in this process.
  • Will be required to patrol areas during storm periods and make frequent reports on observations and measurements for flood control and protection of SRP facilities.
  • Maintains complete and accurate logs on all pertinent items.
  • Collects data used in compiling crop and livestock reports, facilities inventory and other work as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Employee must work safely and efficiently in the performance of their job duties.
  • Must maintain effective working relationships with other employees, customers and the public.
  • Must have the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, and have the ability to accurately and legibly complete applicable paper work.
  • May be required to work a reasonable amount of overtime.
