About The Position

The College of Business at Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Academic Advisor I - Boca Raton, FL. The FAU College of Business is one of the largest AACSB-accredited colleges of business in the United States with more than 8,000 students. The college has seven departments and an impressive offering of degree programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels (including Ph.D.) as well as many online, executive, and certificate programs. The Undergraduate Academic Advisor I will provide specialized academic advising services to undergraduate business students and students in other colleges seeking a College of Business minor or certificate. The advisor will deliver tailored academic guidance and assist students in the development of an education plan, including choosing a program of study and/or clarifying educational and professional goals.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization is required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge about the College’s programs and requirements.
  • Advises students about the courses and requirements for degree programs and/or transfer requirements for a particular program of study.
  • Informs students about alternatives, limitations, and possible consequences of academic decisions (e.g., adding, dropping, withdrawing, changing of major, attempts).
  • Educates students about course planning and registration processes and refers to available resources to meet individual needs, including career and personal development.
  • Makes appropriate referrals to students perceived as at-risk and acts as an advocate as appropriate.
  • Develops and maintains operating procedures that minimize the likelihood and impact of errors.
  • Monitors student academic plans to provide timely, proactive outreach to ensure degree progress and timely graduation using defined learning outcomes.
  • Reinforces and supports student degree progress, academic success, and retention in alignment with the university's strategic goals and initiatives.
  • Participates in student recruitment and onboarding activities for on- and off-campus events and assists with orientation programs.
  • Participates in individual and team professional development and remains current with technology used to provide advising services.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required to support the academic mission of the college.
