About The Position

We’re seeking a Unit Nursing Supervisor to provide hands-on leadership and 24-hour oversight of our Behavioral Urgent Care Unit. This is a working leadership role. You’ll be on the floor alongside your team while also helping shape the unit’s clinical direction and culture. Position Overview The Unit Nursing Supervisor partners with the Chief Nursing Officer and Crisis Clinical Officer to ensure exceptional patient care, strong team performance, and a safe, therapeutic environment. This leader maintains clinical oversight of the unit while also carrying direct patient care responsibilities. This role blends leadership, collaboration, and active bedside nursing. Schedule Structure 40-hour work week Minimum of two 12-hour shifts per week as floor nurse (shift based on preference and unit needs) Up to two 8-hour administrative days per week One weekend per month (shift of choice) Overtime approved for floor shifts only Flexibility is essential to meet patient and organizational needs.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • Active Registered Nurse license with the Kansas State Board of Nursing
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities
  • Self-directed with the ability to work independently
  • Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills
  • Ability to quickly assess and respond in emergent situations
  • Proficient in basic keyboarding and documentation
  • Ability to stand and sit for extended periods
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
  • Ability to kneel, bend, squat, and safely assist or restrain patients when necessary
  • Must pass Kansas Bureau of Investigation screen
  • Central Registry screens for adults and children
  • DCF background check

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred
  • Minimum two years of psychiatric nursing experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide 24-hour oversight of the Behavioral Urgent Care Unit
  • Supervise and support nursing staff
  • Ensure appropriate patient-to-staff assignments
  • Maintain medication inventory and security
  • Uphold Prairie View clinical outcome standards
  • Exercise sound judgment and decision-making in emergent situations
  • Administer medications and monitor patient responses
  • Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments
  • Develop and implement nursing diagnoses and Plans of Care
  • Initiate treatment planning at admission
  • Evaluate and revise Plans of Care based on ongoing assessments
  • Maintain a safe, therapeutic milieu
  • Identify maladaptive or pathological responses
  • Promote patient independence and responsibility
  • Communicate daily with psychiatrists, ARNPs, and PAs
  • Follow up on provider orders
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to support whole-person care
  • Communicate effectively with referral sources and treatment providers
  • Provide education to patients, families, and caregivers
  • Assist in staff education and professional development
  • Maintain clear and appropriate professional boundaries
  • Demonstrate leadership, accountability, and adaptability
  • Implement positive change in a complex clinical environment
  • Perform duties accurately, thoroughly, and in a timely manner
  • Complete required USDOT Medical Waste Training within 90 days and annually thereafter
