About The Position

The Utilities and Facilities Technician is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation and maintenance of building utilities and facilities systems in a GMP-regulated environment. This role supports manufacturing by ensuring critical infrastructure such as HVAC, compressed air, chilled water, boilers, and cleanroom utilities operate consistently and in compliance with applicable regulations and ASP quality standards. This role contributes directly to ASP’s mission of protecting patients during their most critical moments by ensuring operational continuity and compliance through facility reliability.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems; familiarity with GMPs, OSHA, and EHS standards; computer literacy including CMMS systems (Maximo, SAP, etc.)
  • Demonstrates accountability, takes initiative, and leads by example within the scope of the role.
  • Acts with urgency and precision to ensure facility uptime and customer satisfaction across internal teams.
  • Willingly identifies and escalates potential system risks and proposes corrective actions.
  • Suggests and implements improvements to reduce downtime and enhance equipment reliability.
  • Collaborates cross-functionally with engineering, quality, and vendors to drive results.
  • Consistently completes assigned tasks efficiently and in compliance with established procedures and regulations.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in facility maintenance, building utilities, or related technician role in a GMP, FDA-regulated, or cleanroom environment.
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting critical building utilities and facility infrastructure.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Must possess a valid California driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • EPA Universal HVAC Certification preferred
  • forklift certification a plus.
  • Associate’s Degree in HVAC, Mechanical, Electrical Technology or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance activities on facility utilities including HVAC, compressed air, vacuum, boilers, water systems (DI/RO), and facility controls.
  • Respond promptly to equipment failures, alarms, and utility outages to ensure minimal disruption to manufacturing operations.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot building automation systems and utilities monitoring systems, including BMS and SCADA where applicable.
  • Support installation and startup of new utility systems or facility expansions, ensuring alignment with GMP and ASP engineering standards.
  • Complete work orders, inspections, and documentation in CMMS to ensure regulatory and audit readiness.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors for utility services, repairs, and equipment calibrations.
  • Engage with internal stakeholders including Manufacturing, Quality, EHS, and Engineering to resolve utility-related issues or improvement opportunities.
  • Proactively addresses EHS risks, follows EHS guidelines, and fosters a culture where EHS is as vital as quality and productivity.
  • Communicate business-related issues/opportunities to next management level and perform other duties as assigned.
