Amentum is seeking a Utilities Infrastructure Technician in the Williamsburg area. The Utilities Infrastructure Technician provides critical ground-level support for overhead and underground power systems while assisting in the operation and maintenance of medium voltage (up to 13.2 kV) switchgear and controls. This hybrid role requires a unique blend of physical stamina for field line work and technical proficiency for troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and shop-based electrical repairs. Core Responsibilities Line & Infrastructure Support: Assist electrical lineman in the installation and repair of overhead and underground transmission systems. Tasks include digging trenches/pole holes, framing poles, pulling wire, and "grounding" systems safely. Medium Voltage (MV) Operations: Operate and maintain MV switchgear, generators, transformers, and controllers. Connect electrical cables and perform "meagering" of cables to ensure insulation integrity. Troubleshooting & Repair: Diagnose malfunctions in electrical systems using blueprints, layouts, and standard computations. Repair or replace wiring, circuits, and motors to ensure base-wide operational continuity. Equipment & Tool Operation: Drive and operate utility vehicles (bucket trucks, digger derricks). Use specialized testing instruments, electric meters, and hand/power tools common to the trade. Safety & Compliance: Execute Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and determine appropriate PPE levels for specific tasks. Adhere strictly to ANSI safety standards and NEC codes. Preventive Maintenance: Perform routine inspections and PMs on electrical fixtures, switchboards, and property-wide assets. Administrative & Planning: Read utility meters, maintain daily work logs, and prepare estimates for man-hours and materials for project completion. Technical Skills & Physical Requirements High Voltage Proficiency: Knowledge and hands-on experience working with voltages up to 13.2 kV. Blueprint Reading: Ability to interpret complex drawings, manuals, and construction specifications. Physical Stamina: Must be able to lift 35–50 lbs, climb stairs and extension ladders repetitively, and work in extreme weather conditions. Availability: Willingness to work on-call for emergency power restoration, nights, weekends, and holidays.
