Utility Service Worker - Water
About The Position
The purpose of this position is to assist in construction projects, water line repair/installation and maintenance of the water infrastructure. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Digs holes, installs piping, and performs debris removal after job is complete. Replaces non-operating meters, meter boxes, and lids. Discontinues and reinstates water services and secures final reading for customer service. Installs, repairs, and services water lines, fire hydrants and valves. Loads truck with supplies and materials needed to complete the job. Supplemental Functions: Performs other similar duties as required. Licensing and Certifications: Valid North Carolina Driver’s License. PLEASE NOTE : Applicants must meet the City criteria for an acceptable driving record. Working Conditions / Physical Requirements: Positions in this class require: standing, fine dexterity, walking, lifting, carrying, sitting, reaching, kneeling, crawling, pushing/pulling, climbing, vision, foot controls, balancing, bending, crouching, hearing, twisting, and talking. Very Heavy: Exerting over 100 pounds occasionally, 50 - 100 pounds frequently, or from 20 up to 50 pounds constantly. Incumbents may be subjected to extreme temperature, wetness and/or humidity, respiratory hazards, noise and vibration, and physical hazards.
Requirements
- Valid North Carolina Driver’s License
- Applicants must meet the City criteria for an acceptable driving record.
- Reading and interpreting data
- Performing basic mathematical calculations
- Operating machinery and hand tools
- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
