About The Position

The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids (CTFK) is seeking an innovative, strategic and entrepreneurial Vice President of Advancement to maintain our current donor investments and lead our next phase of growth. This senior leader will bring deep expertise in securing six- and seven-figure gifts and grants from individuals, foundations, corporations and other private funding partners. As a front-line fundraiser and relationship builder, the Vice President will partner with the President & CEO, executive leadership and board members to cultivate transformative, mission-aligned investments that fuel both the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids and its Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI). The Vice President of Advancement will lead the execution of the fundraising priorities outlined in the 2025–2027 Strategic Plan, while managing team performance and ensuring best-in-class systems and practices are in place to deliver on ambitious annual and multi-year fundraising goals. Working collaboratively across the organization and all its divisions and departments including fundraising, business development, programs and communications, this proven leader will design and drive innovative funding strategies that broaden our donor base, elevate our visibility and ensure long-term sustainability of the organization.

Requirements

  • Senior-level development professional at least 15 years of fundraising experience and at least 5 years leading teams; proven success in strategic planning and managing fundraising professionals in complex organizations.
  • Demonstrated track record of building and managing development operations, setting priorities and driving execution while working cross-functionally with senior leadership.
  • Broad fundraising expertise across individual giving, foundations and corporate partnerships, ideally within nonprofit or advocacy organizations.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to design, implement, and deliver annual fundraising plans that meet or exceed revenue targets.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks and work effectively under deadlines.
  • Exceptional communicator with strong interpersonal skills; adept at engaging high-level donors, board members, and partners.
  • Financial acumen with experience in budgeting, revenue forecasting, and analyzing fundraising performance.
  • CRM and systems expertise with experience in donor databases and data-driven engagement; knowledge of Blackbaud and EveryAction preferred.
  • Proven leadership skills, with the ability to build, mentor and inspire a high-performing team and foster collaboration across departments.

Responsibilities

  • Implement an annual fundraising strategy and workplan to meet the financial goals outlined in the Strategic Plan 2025-2027, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Establish and meet annual revenue targets, aiming for at least a 2-5% increase in unrestricted revenue, with a specific focus on expanding special events and launching a major gifts program.
  • Work with key leadership across the organization to enhance donor engagement and achieve an 85% renewal rate with existing donors, fostering long-term relationships.
  • Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships to secure new funding and resources, supporting organizational programs and initiatives and expanding the organization’s resource base.
  • Refine processes to ensure all new business development efforts are aligned with the Strategic Plan, driving expansion and diversification of revenue streams.
  • Participate in efforts to improve the timely submission of donor reports and maintain strong relationships with funders by ensuring reporting standards are met.
  • Build and enhance the advancement operations infrastructure, including systems for tracking progress and reporting on fundraising efforts.
  • Collaborate with the Board, Executive Leadership Team and the Communications teams to ensure fundraising efforts align with the CTFK and GHAI brands, as part of the Strategic Plan and the organization’s vision as a global public health advocacy leader.
  • Support the development of a major gifts program that includes cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts.
  • Oversee and execute fundraising and visibility events like our annual gala, donor cultivation events and other special events to engage donors, supporters, and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to regular reports to the board, at least twice a year, to track progress against fundraising goals and share updates on key developments.
  • Work with the Board Development Committee to establish and achieve annual fundraising targets, ensuring active board engagement in fundraising efforts.
  • Lead, mentor and grow a high-performing team of four Advancement staff, setting clear goals, accountability measures and professional development pathways.
