Position Summary Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics (One-Year Appointment) Guilford College – Greensboro, NC Start Date: August 2026 Guilford College invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics to begin in August 2026. This is a one-year appointment, with the possibility of extension depending on departmental needs and growth. The successful candidate will demonstrate an interest in and ability to teach creatively across a range of undergraduate mathematics courses. Teaching responsibilities may include lower-level courses such as pre-calculus, elementary statistics, and mathematics for the liberal arts, as well as upper-level courses for mathematics majors, depending on departmental needs and the candidate’s expertise. The Mathematics Department at Guilford College serves students from a variety of programs, including science, business, education, and computer studies, among others. The department seeks candidates who are committed to engaging and supporting students with diverse academic interests, backgrounds, and levels of preparation. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to help a broad range of students develop quantitative reasoning and mathematical skills relevant to general education, the sciences, and professional studies, as well as for pure and applied mathematics. Qualifications Applicants must hold at least a Master’s degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field (such as statistics, computational mathematics, or data science) by the start date. Completion or near completion of a Ph.D. is preferred. If institutional policy requires, this requirement may be adjusted to Ph.D. in Mathematics or a related field (completed or ABD) by the start date. Successful experience teaching at the postsecondary level is preferred, and candidates should demonstrate a commitment to student-centered teaching and inclusive pedagogical practices.
