About The Position

The Recreational/Vocational coordinator is responsible for the planning, coordinating, and directing of a wide and varied scope of activities and programming which meet the spiritual, cultural, emotional, intellectual, vocational, social, physical, and environmental needs of the youth in care. The Recreational/Vocational coordinator is assigned to meet the needs, and to develop vocational curriculum, recreation and leisure plans, acculturation services, and celebration of cultural-specific events and holidays. Overall, the Recreational/Vocational coordinator supports the Direct Care Department by scheduling, coordinating, supervising, and developing all the events and documentation of all activities after educational hours and weekends.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or a GED
  • Two (2) to four (4) years of ORR Residential Care Services experience or progressive employment experience in the behavioral sciences, human services, or social services field is required.
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, SharePoint, OneDrive) with the ability to learn new software
  • Must be able to perform duties in a professional manner, obey the law, avoid conflicts of interest, and always make the wellbeing of the youth your number one priority.
  • Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the value of cultural diversity, including the ability to develop systems and practices that are inclusive of diverse staff members and responsive to the cultural needs of the youth population served.
  • Ability to read, write and converse proficiently in Spanish and English and the ability to translate written Spanish into English require.
  • Ability to collaborate with peers, colleagues, and others to achieve mission goals and objectives.

  • Associate degree is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule and coordinate recreational opportunities for the service population.
  • Maintain a safe and orderly environment for the service while they are engaged in activities under the direction of this position.
  • Develop and implement a monthly recreational activity calendar and purchases items for “La Tiendita.”
  • Ensure that needed recreational supplies and equipment are available for recreational Activities.
  • Document each child’s progress in recreational activities in monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Coordinate ORR activities including but not limited to group, physical, vocational, and recreational activities.
  • Provide clear verbal directions and guidelines during recreational activities.
  • Document each child’s progress in recreational activities in monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Assist staff with supervision of the service population during recreational activities.
