Water Resources Technician – Full Time Position Available About Santo Domingo: For over 400 years, Santo Domingo Pueblo has been one of the central Indian Pueblos in New Mexico. Summary of Position: The Water Resources Technician is responsible for the technical implementation and management of Santo Domingo Pueblo water resources. This position supports the management of grants and contracts by researching and gathering field data, conducting monitoring activities and grant reporting under the supervision of the Water Resources Division Manager. The Technician plays a primary role in field work, coordinating the operation and maintenance of irrigation facilities, assisting with infrastructure projects and collaborating directly with farmers and ranchers on water access, water issues, ownership, and infrastructure management. Additionally, this role supports education and outreach initiatives to inform the community about water resources management initiatives and activities.

Requirements

  • Conduct field activities and operate equipment safely to achieve project objectives, including conducting surveys and monitoring activities.
  • Assist in the implementation of projects related to water conveyance and infrastructure management, ensuring timely and efficient delivery, and safety.
  • Perform regular inspections of water infrastructure to ensure overall effectiveness and efficiency of the Pueblo's facilities.
  • Be aware of and take necessary precautions to protect against exposure to occupational hazards during field work.
  • Coordinate directly with representatives from the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District (MRGCD), Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), and Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) regarding the operation, maintenance, and improvement of irrigation facilities.
  • Attend the 6-Pueblo Water Coalition monthly meetings for the Middle Rio Grande Basin.
  • Collaborate with Pueblo farmers on water irrigation issues and identify and document necessary infrastructure improvements.
  • Assist the Division Manager in research for Federal, State, and Private funding by providing technical data and field reports.
  • Participate in education and outreach initiatives to inform and engage the community in water resource planning and management activities.
  • Work with Natural Resources Department (NRD) divisions on interdepartmental initiatives.
  • Perform all activities in accordance with Santo Domingo Pueblo policies and procedures.
  • Satisfactorily complete training as directed by the Supervisor or Human Resources Department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
