An organization within the Cultural & Community Engagement sector seeks a contractor to work with the department’s Web Manager and information technology team to update department websites to meet elevated accessibility standards. This is a time-limited position based on the completion of current accessibility updates. This opportunity is ideal for someone interested in building skills in web accessibility and interface design while collaborating closely with an experienced IT team. Aptitude and demonstrated attention to detail are more important than years of experience in web development. Under the direction of the Web Manager, the Web Accessibility Assistant will be primarily responsible for updating WordPress websites (using Cornerstone templates) with approved technology tools. The role involves making accessibility updates while preserving page design and working collaboratively to troubleshoot and resolve accessibility issues. A secondary phase of the project will focus on remediating published PDF documents to bring them in line with federal accessibility standards. This position requires training and regular attendance at twice-weekly virtual accessibility office hours. After training is completed, much of the work may be performed remotely, with regular check-ins with the Web Manager. The Web Accessibility Assistant will support multiple divisions and programs within the organization.
