About The Position

We Energies, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking a Welder in our Milwaukee, Wisconsin location. This position is represented by We Energies L2006 Union. Job Summary  To design, fabricate, install and maintain the We Energies gas distribution system and equipment. Perform various welding services, while ensuring safety, quality, and reliability. Respond to emergency welding situations.Job Responsibilities  Design, fabricate, and install weld connections and fittings necessary to repair, relocate, or extend gas distribution facilities that may be in conflict with municipalities, contractors, or utilities (sewer, water, highway projects, etc.) i.e. line stoppers, assorted pipe and elbow fittings, valve transition fittings, service tees, sleeves for temporary repairs, special meter assemblies, etc. Take on the responsibilities to ensure the safety of the work performed. Be available for call outs 24 hours a day for emergency welding situations. Design, fabricate, test, paint and weld all meter units, i.e. meter sets, risers guards, special meter assemblies, etc.  Construct and test Bilco valve and regulator pits.  Design, fabricate, or modify new equipment, i.e. truck boxes and beds, jigs, fixtures, tooling, trailers, backhoes, trenchers, etc.  Perform welding duties for other departments. Maintain various equipment i.e. shop welders, truck mounted welders, torches, beveling machine, lathe band saw, power hack saw, hand tools, etc.  Maintain Personal Protective Equipment – respirators, shields, weld hoods, etc.   Perform welding functions at the Liquid Natural Gas plants and gate stations. Perform housekeeping functions as necessary. Observe vehicle operation and report any safety defects to proper department for evaluation and correction.   Fuel and clean work vehicle. Perform minor vehicle maintenance such as checking and maintaining fluid levels, monitoring tire pressure, jump starting, cleaning windshield and window glass, etc. Facilitate, and/or act as liaison with contractors, construction crews, municipal personnel and customers. Attend and participate in safety and training meetings when scheduled. Operate and maintain test equipment. Repair and maintain tools and equipment. Accurately complete reports, paper work, and electronic work orders. Participate in outage restoration. Perform other duties as assigned. Assist in repairs of outside damaged Company natural gas facilities.  Minimum Qualifications  NOTE: Pursuant to Letter Agreement 2: The employee will have up to four (4) calendar months from the first date of Initial Welding Class to successfully attain their required welding Operator Qualification(s). The screening will consist of three separate welds drawn from our welding standards.  Applicants must be able to certify under the American Petroleum Institute (API) 1104 Section 6.4 (visual) and Section 9.3 (radiographic testing) multiple qualification test. The test includes open-root pipe butt welds in the downhill method in the fixed horizontal position in the Gas Metal Arc (GMAW) and open-root pipe butt welds in the uphill method in the Manual Oxyacetylene process. The Lincoln E6010 cellulose sodium coated electrodes shall be used for the SMAW process. For further information see API1104 sections 6.4 and 9.3. Candidates may be required to demonstrate their ability to perform the physical functions of the position by completing a Physical Capacity Evaluation.  Testing Requirements  Gas Operations Test (GOT):DAT-Mechanical Reasoning- Ability to understand mechanic concepts. DAT-Space Relations-Ability to visualize forms in space. DAT-Numerical-Assessment designed to measure an individual's understanding of numerical relationships and facility in handling numerical concepts. PPM-Perceptual Reasoning-Measures your ability to rotate objects and assemble multiple objects in space.NEO-PI3-Personality measure. Suggested Preparation: Review of basic arithmetic skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, decimals, fractions, etc. There are no practice tests or brochures for this test. .
