About The Position

Performs highly advanced Windows Server architectural and systems engineering work within the Infrastructure Section of the Information Technology Division. Work involves assisting in the design, optimization, and lifecycle management of TxDOT's enterprise Windows Server environment, including Active Directory, certificate services, and related infrastructure integrations. The role provides expert-level technical direction for environment modernization, server architecture governance, Active Directory design, security alignment, automation, and standards development. Work requires evaluating complex systems requirements, identifying architectural improvements, designing enterprise technical strategies, and ensuring integrations across servers, networking, storage, identity, and security platforms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer/Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or related discipline. Related experience and/or relevant technical training may be substituted for education on a year per year basis.
  • 5 years of experience in systems analysis, application systems support, or related work experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent) Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.
  • Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • IT/IS software and hardware development methodologies and standards
  • Concepts, techniques and tools used in planning, designing and implementing database management systems and related technologies
  • Applicable computer software applications and hardware
  • Researching, analyzing, and interpreting policies and state and federal laws and regulations specific to functional area

  • 10 years of progressively responsible experience as a Windows Server engineer or architect, including:
  • Windows Server OS architecture and lifecycle management
  • Active Directory design, optimization, and operations
  • Enterprise certificate management (DigiCert, Microsoft CA)
  • Infrastructure integration across network, storage, virtualization, and security platforms
  • Change management processes in large enterprises
  • Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate
  • Microsoft Certified: Cybersecurity Architect Expert
  • Azure Administrator or Architect certifications
  • Relevant PKI or enterprise security certifications

Responsibilities

  • Monitors changes in hardware and software and provides current information to end users.
  • Analyzes new or existing procedures, information systems, or utility programs for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • May train other employees
  • Monitors and collects information to determine the strength, weaknesses and performance issues of existing technology.
  • Designs, builds, tests, implements, and maintains both publish and ad hoc reports in response to customer change requests.
  • Coordinates, plans, and schedules the installation or training for new or revised systems and defines business process requirements.
  • Oversees and/or prepares and defines the goals of the system and devises flow charts and diagrams describing logical operational steps of programs.
  • Coordinates and/or tests and diagnoses systems to ensure critical requirements are met.
  • Coordinates with users to identify system requirements, develop functional design specifications to meet requirements, and solve complex operational problems.
  • Coordinates and/or researches, analyzes and tests business procedures, information systems, programs or systems software.
  • Coordinates requests or completes user security changes or additions and facilitates security authorizations for new users.
  • Oversees the training of staff prior to the implementation of technical and/or computer systems and offers advice and guidance during the implementation process.
  • Provides technical assistance of software applications.
  • Reviews and analyzes reports and performance indicators to locate code problems, and corrects errors by modifying or correcting code.
  • Responds to incoming requests from business areas to design, build, maintain or repair reports and applications.
  • Troubleshoots and analyzes technical problems associated with local applications.
  • Writes and reviews technical specifications for programs and/or systems.
  • Writes and updates computer and/or server application programs.
  • Writes programs and/or queries for spreadsheet or database software to create reports and import/export data.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
