About The Position

The Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet advances education, workforce development, and economic opportunity across the Commonwealth. The Cabinet provides education and training programs, employment and reemployment services, unemployment insurance, and disability determination services to help Kentuckians gain skills, find work, and maintain economic stability. It partners with education providers, workforce boards, and employers to align training with labor market needs and oversees labor programs that promote fair and safe workplaces. The Career Development Office provides workforce services to Kentuckians who are unemployed, under-employed, or searching for a new career path. We also provide a variety of services, such as assistance with unemployment insurance, business downsizing, labor market information, job postings, and recruiting and training. This is a federally funded time-limited (FFTL) position. This means it is a position that is paid entirely as the result of a federal grant. The duration of employment shall not exceed the life of the federal grant that funds the position. An employee appointed to an FFTL position is required to meet the minimum requirements for the classification. Further, an employee appointed to an FFTL position is designated as an unclassified (non- merit) employee. An FFTL employee is eligible to receive benefits at the same level as a classified (merit) employee in a permanent position. Military experience is preferred due to federal funding requirements. This position will have access to confidential and sensitive information. The successful candidate will be required to ensure the safeguarding and security of all confidential and sensitive information and will be required to complete trainings, sign acknowledgements, follow all policies and adhere to all statutes and requirements pertaining to the safeguarding and security of confidential and sensitive information while employed and after employment ends. The Education and Labor Cabinet (ELC) also participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S. ELC will only use E- Verify once you have accepted a job offer and completed the Form I-9. Requirements

  • Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
  • One year of experience in reviewing, monitoring, determining eligibility for, and/or administering employment service or unemployment insurance programs, or experience in education, public administration, business, human services, military, human resources or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Provides employment support services to veterans determined to be job ready
  • Advocates job development and training and matches the veterans to employment opportunities generated by business outreach.
  • Explains programs and requirements of other workforce partners and refers work-ready veterans to businesses and monitors to ensure veterans receive priority of service in all offices within area of responsibility.
  • Assists businesses and employers with posting vacant positions and follow-up with employers.
  • Maintains veterans’ statistical information and reports any issues.
  • Provides training to American Job Center staff and other partner staff on the duties of the Jobs for Veterans State Grant staff.
