About The Position

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is recruiting for an Accounting Technician. This position performs accounting technician duties by reviewing federal tax returns for agricultural fuel tax refund eligibility and entering fuel tax returns into the appropriate system. Responsible for the accurate processing of cash, checks, taxpayer information, and refunds under department internal controls. Assists with various mail distribution duties. This position is part of a career ladder with career advancement opportunities. This position reports to the Revenue Administration Supervisor and does not supervise others. Requirements

  • 1 year of related office experience and a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to effectively organize workload.
  • Ability to understand rules, regulations, laws, policies, and procedures and apply them appropriately.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with customers.
  • A cover letter of no more than two pages addressing your qualifications for the position.

  • The successful candidate must pass a name-based background investigation as a condition of employment.
