About The Position

Executes a daily schedule of retrieving items being donated from area residences and businesses while providing high-quality customer service. Facilitates the pricing and display of donations on the sales floor and assists with general store operations when needed. The ReStore mission is to generate revenue through the sale of donated building materials and household items, thereby supporting both the operating budget and HFH's mission to build safe and affordable housing for people in need. Through its efforts, the ReStore facilitates recycling, minimizes waste, provides low-cost home improvement items, and increases Habitat's visibility in our community. All employees are expected to be engaged in the mission while on the job. In their everyday life, employees are requested to demonstrate a positive, ethical reflection of the HFH mission.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Valid State of Michigan License and a good driving record required
  • Must possess strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment, and be able to work independently
  • Must be able to deal with all kinds of individuals and remain consistent in keeping a professional demeanor
  • Due to the nature of the affiliate operations, all affiliate positions may be subject to credit, background, or drug use random check
  • Must pass Criminal Background Check (convictions will be reviewed based on the seriousness of the crime, and a conviction does not necessarily mean disqualification)
  • Must pass a Sexual Offender Check. Being listed will result in automatic disqualification from employment
  • Must be able to lift up to 50+ pounds.
  • Will also experience frequent bending, squatting, lifting, and repetitive motion.

Nice To Haves

  • Chauffeur’s license preferred
  • Knowledge of furniture moving techniques preferred
  • Experience driving a box truck preferred
  • Interest in working with a fast-paced nonprofit that makes a difference in our community
  • Retail, service, and/or moving experience helpful

Responsibilities

  • Assistant driver responsible for executing scheduled donation pickups and is capable of driving the box truck when the Donations Driver is not available.
  • Make confirmation calls before pick-ups to verify what items are being donated if the Donations Driver is unavailable.
  • Practice good time management and routing skills to facilitate fast donation pickups; seek assistance from other staff when workload exceeds time capacity.
  • Physically loading donated goods onto the truck: furniture, appliances, building materials, etc.
  • Provide high-quality customer service to donors that will result in future donations and other forms of support to the organization.
  • Is knowledgeable of and follows donation selection criteria for acceptance of donations and provides effective communication in cases when donations cannot be accepted in a respectful and productive manner.
  • Routinely develops and executes a plan to unload collected items at the Restore, maximizing storage and floor space to achieve quick sales.
  • Maintain donor records in a confidential and accurate manner, completing and turning in forms for processing on a timely basis.
  • Maintains driving, fuel, pickup, truck maintenance, or other logs relative to the position or duties of the driver, as requested.
  • Implementation of appropriate driving and warehouse safety standards; is aware of MIOSHA or other regulations concerning the use of commercial trucks for business.
  • Oversees routine and unexpected truck maintenance and repairs.
  • Pricing and display of items
  • Assisting customers as they shop, including answering questions, locating items, loading purchases, and unloading donations that are dropped off at the store.
  • Proficient in operating the cash register when needed.
  • Helps to maintain organization and cleanliness in the ReStore and its facilities, including the store floor, bathrooms, common spaces, sidewalks, and parking lot.
  • Assists with snow removal and routine exterior cleanup.
  • Acts as an Ambassador for the mission of Habitat for Humanity
  • Learns the basics about its programs and work in order to answer donor and customer questions and make referrals to the appropriate staff person.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service skills, friendliness, and helpfulness to donors, team members, ReStore customers, and Habitat program partners
  • Complies with published or directed policies of the Affiliate
  • Utilizes affiliate resources wisely and strives to eliminate waste and promote recycling
  • Other duties as assigned
