About The Position

The Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking an experienced and motivated individual to serve as Assistant Superintendent of Statewide Education Services. The incumbent is responsible for a variety of high-level duties including managing compliance for extended educational services, making budgetary recommendations, developing and coordinating research projects, and overseeing all educational programming for youth in the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice. The ideal candidate will possess prior administrative experience in an educational setting and the ability to work effectively with youth who demonstrate deviant behavior. Requirements

  • Requires possession of a current and valid Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Professional Educator License with a Superintendent (Pre-K–12) endorsement.
  • Requires four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative experience as an administrator in an educational setting.
  • Requires the ability to pass an IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires the ability to pass an IDOC/IDJJ drug screening.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers at least five (5) years of experience monitoring and ensuring compliance with state and federal mandates as it relates to educational services.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of professional supervisory experience assigning and reviewing work, implementing discipline, carrying out employee evaluations, and reassigning staff to meet day to day expectations.
  • Prefers at least (3) years of professional experience working with youth demonstrating deviant behavior.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the development, review, and support of procedures and policies related to educational services for emerging adults, student achievement, and alignment with Department initiatives.
  • Serves as an on-site supervisor.
  • Speaks on behalf of the Superintendent on regulatory and implementation issues related to extended education services.
  • Develops and implements the Department of Juvenile Justice School District and Department of Juvenile Justice education policies and procedures.
  • Makes recommendations to the Director of Human Resources in conjunction with the Superintendent of Schools on school district personnel issues.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
