About The Position

We are seeking a proactive and driven Associate Accounting Technician to join our IFTA/IRP Unit at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. This role is essential to ensuring the accurate processing of commercial fuel tax returns, motor carrier registrations, and license applications. You’ll interact with businesses, carriers, and team members daily to verify credentials, analyze financial information, and support our online system users—all while helping to keep Maine’s roads safe and commerce running.

Responsibilities

  • Review and verify IFTA license applications, fuel tax returns, and Maine-only decal requests for accuracy and completeness.
  • Respond to inquiries from commercial carriers and the public via phone, email, fax, mail, and walk-ins.
  • Assist customers in navigating the IFTA/IRP online system.
  • Process credential requests and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Reconcile payments and ensure that collected revenue matches expected amounts.
  • Provide technical support to customers and collaborate with internal teams to improve service delivery.
