About The Position

The Member Services Specialist I primary job function is to be responsible for initiating patient visits, coordinating patient appointments, collecting payments, entering/updating patient information on our computer system and providing courteous, efficient and informational telephone access to clinic services. The Member Services Specialist I are responsible for medical and dental financial assistance program registration, coordinating services for Migrant Seasonal Farmworkers (MSFW) and other underserved populations seeking medical care. Provides interpretation and advocates and facilitates contact between patient/family and appropriate discipline. Job Specific Competencies 1. Greets all patients and guests using AIDET fundamentals. 2. Assist patients with scheduling appointments with Medical and Dental department: a. Collects and updates patient demographics as needed, takes patient pictures, and assists patients with forms if necessary. b. Obtains and verifies patient insurance information. c. Enters accurate data in Athena, EMR, EDR and EPM in accordance with protocol. d. Assesses patients’ needs and provides referrals to clinic services. e. Assists patients with information and education on other CVCH programs as approved by Supervisor. f. Provides patients with necessary community information (maps, food banks, housing etc.). g. Educates new patients about CVCH and providing on-site tours of our facility as well as other information pertinent to new patients, such as: Hours of operation of the clinic. 3. Benefit Enrollment, Slide Fee and Helping Hands a. Makes appointment for benefit enrollment as needed. b. Interviews and counsels underinsured and uninsured patients utilizing CVCH services to determine financial eligibility for benefit enrollment programs. c. Responsible for reviewing and interpreting income and family size for patient's enrollment into health care coverage programs. d. In-person Assistor for WHPF. e. Follows up with clients on incomplete applications and maintains CCCN Enrollment Manager, documenting case statistics. f. Presents information to interested community groups about available health insurance options. 4. Outreach a. Coordinates and schedules services for Migrant Seasonal Farmworkers (MSFW) and all others who qualify with migrant status. b. Assist in the coordination of community events as well as be willing to participate in those events. c. Greets MSFW upon arrival at clinic and orients MSFW to clinic services and provides interpretation when necessary. 5. Patient Care Competencies (Only applicable if MA-R Licensure is active) a. Disposing of bio-hazardous materials. b. Practicing standard precautions. c. Preparing and maintaining examination and treatment areas. d. Taking vital signs. e. Finger stick to collect blood specimen. f. Tests waived under the federal clinical laboratory improvement (CLIA) amendments program. g. Observing and reporting patients’ signs or symptoms. h. Telephone and in person screening limited to intake and gathering of information without requiring the exercise of judgment based on clinical knowledge. i. Maintaining medical and immunization records. j. Screening and following up on test results as directed by a healthcare practitioner. 6. Must be able to work nights and weekends. Required to travel to each site location on a scheduled basis to perform position duties. General Duties and Responsibilities 1. Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by supervisor. 2. Supports interdisciplinary team in area by listening to concerns and suggestions and by providing follow-up and feedback in a timely manner. 7. Keeps customer service and the mission of the organization in mind when interacting with all clients, coworkers, and others. 8. Must be able to tolerate frequent work interruptions, organize work, and reset priorities in order to complete work responsibilities in a timely manner. 9. Follows all established policies, guidelines, and procedures, including federal and state regulations, to assure safe practices and quality patient care. 10. Follows Universal Precautions and Infection Control Standards and compliance with Joint Commission and HIPAA regulations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Prefer AA degree, Business School diploma or some college.
  • Eligible for Medical Assistant-Registered Licensure.
  • Community Health Worker Certification required.
  • Apple Health Navigator Level 1 training required.
  • One (1) year experience in the medical or business/office field or equivalent education and training/certification preferred.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish required.
  • Must be fluent in written/verbal English/Spanish and must have strong communication skills.
  • Able to read, write and communicate effectively using the English language.
  • Knowledge of computer applications and equipment related to work.
  • Effectively work in a multi-task environment, prioritizing tasks properly, and completing tasks/projects in a timely manner.
  • Basic computer experience; adequate typing; 10-key calculator and filing skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team work environment and/or work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of consumers in a diverse community.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relations with peers, patients, other agencies, contracted providers, and the public.

  • Must demonstrate concern for accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Essential sensory requirements include the ability to: read computer keyboard, monitor, and documents; prepare and analyze documents; read extensively; hear, recognize, and assess verbal presentations of patients; receive and convey detailed information orally, by telephone and in person; convey accurate and detailed instructions by speaking to others in person and by telephone.
  • Possible exposure to airborne/blood borne pathogens, possible exposure to body fluids/blood.
  • Worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions on a frequent basis with moderate/extreme noise.
  • Worker has contact with consumers and other staff and may be exposed to severe medical conditions presented by them.
  • Exposure to hazardous substances is a moderate risk and there are possible and physical injurious conditions.
  • Tasks routinely involve a potential for mucous membrane or skin contact exposure to blood, fluids, or tissue.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), when appropriate.
