About The Position

The Coordinator within the Office of Student Learning has a key role in strengthening and facilitating departmental and institutional efforts to promote undergraduate student learning through the Supplemental Instruction (SI) program, Peer Led Undergraduate Study (PLUS) course, Academic Success Workshops, Academic Support Collaborative, and Tutor Certification Program (TCP). They will also have the opportunity to: · Coordinate and plan academic success workshops for colleges, student groups, and others on campus and oversee the curriculum development and implementation. · Collaborate with campus partners, faculty, and OSL colleagues to coordinate the SI program, PLUS course, and other student learning efforts. · Design and facilitate effective training for student employees, including but not limited to SI Leaders, PLUS Leaders, and Peer Learning Connectors (PLCs). Through campus partnerships, the Office of Student Learning provides leadership and support of campus-wide academic success efforts through various initiatives and programs. Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Reasonable (1 – 3 years) experience working in higher education within a student success, retention, or support capacity.
  • Familiarity with collegiate academic and administrative procedures (e.g. admissions, registration, financial aid, academic advising, orientation, etc.).
  • Ability to work developmentally with students; ability to promote student learning, development, and success by applying advising approaches to various individual student situations.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to provide new incoming students with a welcoming environment and to help familiarize them with school facilities, policies, services, and expectations for college success and retention.
  • The ability to establish and build healthy working relationships and partnerships with people from various backgrounds within and external to own unit.
  • Knowledge of and ability to coordinate and support academic activities through computer-based academic support system/application.
  • Ability to analyze situations fully and accurately and reach productive decisions that resolve the problems in the best interest of the unit.
  • Knowledge and application of the communication techniques and relationship building skills that develop the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner, including effective listening.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master’s degree in higher education, student development, student affairs, counseling, or a related field is highly desired.
  • Reasonable (1-3 years) experience with student retention approaches, principles, and theories that strengthen student learning.
  • Reasonable (1-3 years) experience with student supervision.
  • Experience teaching or supporting undergraduate students in their learning.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of and ability to utilize tools, techniques, and processes for gathering and reporting data (project assessment) (specifically for analyzing college student retention trends, preferred).
