About The Position

The Department Planning Manager leads the department's ongoing long-term strategic efforts, including significant responsibility for strategic projects. This role is an individual contributor role, but may manage a small team of 1-2 employees. This role typically reports to a department director, and works closely with leadership on projects that may span multiple departments, divisions, and global Church areas. Responsibilities Leads the development of long-term strategies, plans, policies, processes, diagnostics, and implementation plans for executive approval, and helps ensure successful adoption and completion to maximize performance and efficiencies. This includes resource and budget planning, reporting, accountability, and growth opportunities within the department. Plans are of diverse scope and include complex, multidimensional analyses and recommendations related to the following: emerging trends, expansion opportunities, organizational restructuring and modeling, potential threats, viability of outside business partners, and internal business and process performance. Works towards objectives of high importance established by executive councils and department leadership. Receives guidance and incorporates feedback from senior leaders. Takes ownership of preparing and delivering quality strategic proposals, plans, and presentations to the managing director and executive councils. Participates as a member of the directors’ council to determine and implement long term, key strategic objectives. Works cooperatively as a thought partner with key directors and corollaries across several functions. Leads conversations with key stakeholders inside and outside the department with differing perspectives and objectives to ensure a collaborative and unified approach. Offers counsel to leadership to establish and track successful metrics that maintain strategic alignment with the purpose, vision, and priorities of the Church and the department. Oversees the execution and tracking of key strategic initiatives. Conceptualizes and creates new strategic methods, techniques, mindsets, and processes to foster and lead a culture of innovation and data-driven decision making. May manage and fosters the growth of 1-2 direct reports in the day-to-day performance of their jobs based on practical experience and professional knowledge. Leads to ensure the team produces a quality product, meets deadlines, and achieves targets with allocated resources. Provides training and guidance to employees, colleagues, and customers on subjects such as critical thinking, strategic planning, change management, and tracking and use of metrics. Oversees the development of data visualization and other tools. When managing employees, is authorized, in partnership with HR, to hire or fire employees and recommends advancement, promotion, or any other change of status of employees within their reporting line. Hybrid work arrangement options my be available for this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field
  • 6 years of business planning, business strategy, or related experience, including 2 years of management or project management experience.
  • Advanced skill level with standard software such as the Microsoft Office 365 suite.
  • Work with ambiguity and complex situations.
  • Create a collaborative team environment and foster strong relationships.
  • Influence strategic and innovative thinking, identify trends, analyze data to impact recommendations, and develop comprehensive long-term plans and governance models.
  • Operate independently in leading strategic diagnosis and plan development.
  • Identify and develop relevant metrics to inform decision making and track and communicate the results of strategic organizational changes and resource allocations.
  • Manage, lead, develop, and/or mentor others across multiple disciplines including own team members.
  • Provide logical and coherent potential solutions, evaluate risks, and suggest mitigation measures.
  • Communicate effectively in a way that builds and improves relationships both orally and in writing, including excellent executive presentation skills.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive data and documents appropriately.
  • Use data visualization tools.
  • Lead change management.
  • Perform root cause analysis.
