About The Position

The Development Research Analyst, a member of the Development Research team in the Office of Advancement Services, is responsible for partnering with Development Offices (DOFFs) to implement and maintain a comprehensive program of strategic information support, including prospect identification and analysis. The Analyst will respond to requests for information from DOFFs, provide analysis on principal and major gift level prospects, evaluate the potential reputational risk in engaging with prospects, manage prospect identification projects, and complete other requests as assigned. The Analyst will apply excellent research, presentation, and organizational skills, and contribute as an effective writer and devise new ways to secure and analyze information. The Development Research Analyst is responsible for partnering with fundraising divisions to implement and maintain a comprehensive program of strategic information support, including prospect identification and prospect analysis. The Analyst responds to requests for information from fundraising divisions, provides analysis on principal and major gift level prospects, evaluates the potential reputational risk in engaging with prospects, and manages prospect identification projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • One year of related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

  • High level of proficiency in the use of desktop systems and online databases
  • Ability to use tools such as Excel and visualization software to analyze datasets and accomplish work objectives

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and write reports for liaison DOFFs and others, including the Office of Principal Gifts and Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) leadership consistent with established metric benchmarks for work product.
  • Maintain current knowledge of prospect research and risk assessment techniques, resources, and strategies.
  • Utilize advanced web search strategies and fee-based tools to provide research and risk assessment analysis.
  • Conduct prospect identification and assessment projects for liaison DOFFs, meeting metric benchmarks. Identify project stakeholders, objectives, goals and steps, and track status and report on outcomes.
  • Initiate and/or assist in the design of new projects.
  • Manage philanthropic screening data from vendor sources. Work on selecting collaborative prospect identification projects as part of a cohesive team.
  • Establish strong working relationships with assigned university and medical liaison DOFFs.
  • Develop an understanding of DOFF fundraising priorities and consult with development officers about new and existing individual prospects and prospect pools.
  • Field and manage research requests, ongoing projects, and special projects.
  • Make presentations about the results of projects.
  • Determine work priorities and reprioritize workload when necessary to ensure that all deadlines are met with quality products.
  • Maintain news monitoring pages and portfolio tracking to provide updates on existing and potential prospects.
  • Other duties as assigned.
