About The Position

The Digital Communications Associate of Overbrook School for the Blind exudes a passion for the school, its students, and its employees. This position will report directly to the Director of Development and Communications. The Mission of Overbrook School for the Blind (OSB) is to develop and deliver education that enhances the options available for persons with visual impairments, including those with additional challenges so that they have the greatest opportunity to experience active and fulfilling lives. Organizational Description: Overbrook School for the Blind serves students who are blind or visually impaired with or without additional disabilities (such as intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, hearing impairment, sensory issues, and including those who require specialized medical care) receive a customized, individualized education based on state educational standards. OSB is more than a school, it is a community where students, families, and staff support one another and come together to build a bright future. Job Functions: The Digital Communications Associate supports the Development & Communications team in sharing the organization's story and impact across digital platforms. This entry-level role is ideal for a candidate interested in communications, nonprofit storytelling, digital media, and mission-driven work. The Associate will create and publish social media content, manage and update website content, and support internal and external communications. Working closely with faculty, staff, and the development team, this role will identify and share compelling stories about students, programs, and the impact of philanthropy. The position also assists with digital communications that support fundraising, community engagement, and brand awareness. The ideal candidate is a creative storyteller, strong writer, and collaborative team member who is eager to learn and grow in a fast-paced nonprofit communications environment, and also promote disability awareness with accessibility standards. Minimum Education and Experience Qualifications: Content Creation & Storytelling Assist in identifying and developing stories that highlight the organization’s students, programs, and mission Write and produce content for digital platforms, including social media, website stories, and email communications. Capture photos, short videos, and other visual content that support storytelling and engagement maintain consistent voice, tone, and brand standards across communications Assist with the creation of marketing materials, presentations, and other communications content Website Management Managing and updating website content using the organization’s content management system Create and update website pages, news stories, and event listings to ensure information is current and accurate website design updates and page layout improvements in collaboration with the communications team Ensure website content follows accessibility standards and brand guidelines Help optimize website content for search engines (SEO) and mobile responsiveness Monitor website analytics and user engagement to inform content improvements Troubleshoot basic website issues and coordinate with external vendors when necessary Social Media Create and schedule social media content, including graphics, photos, short videos, and captions Monitor social media channels and assist with responding to comments and messages when appropriate Support campaigns that increase awareness of the organization and drive engagement with the community Track social media metrics and assist in preparing performance reports Internal Communications Assist with preparing internal newsletters, announcements, and staff updates Support communications that keep the school community informed about programs, events, and initiatives Development & Fundraising Support Collaborate with the Development team to create content that supports fundraising initiatives and donor engagement Help develop stories that demonstrate the impact of philanthropy and donor support Assist with communications and promotion for fundraising events and campaigns Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, Digital Media, or a related field 0–2 years of relevant experience (internships or student media experience encouraged) Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills Interest in website management, social media strategy, and digital communications Familiarity with website platforms or content management systems (such as Finalsite, WordPress, Squarespace, Smugmug or similar) is helpful but not required Basic design skills using Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools are a plus Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Interest in nonprofit, education, or mission-driven work A combination of training and experience may be combined to substitute for any of the above, with the approval of the Executive Director Skills & Attributes Creative and curious storyteller Collaborative and eager to learn Comfortable using digital tools and social media platforms Organized and able to manage multiple projects Commitment to accessibility and inclusive communications Preferred Qualifications: Experience creating social media content that has generated strong engagement, such as high follower growth, viral posts, or successful personal or organizational social media accounts Experience managing or growing a social media audience through creative storytelling, video, or digital content Physical Requirements & Work Environment : Lifting: must be able to lift 50-lbs minimum. Participate in 2 person lifts. Working Environment : Employees are subject to accidents and/or injuries, which may be incurred during the performance of the essential functions of the position. Work is primarily indoors but some outdoor activities may be required.
