About The Position

Are you a strategic enrollment professional who thrives at the intersection of access, outreach, and admissions policy? The First-Year Outreach & Admissions Coordinator (SSP IV) provides high-level leadership for first-year recruitment and admissions operations at SDSU Imperial Valley. This role designs and implements a comprehensive regional outreach strategy, leads the first-year admissions review process, and builds strategic partnerships that expand educational opportunity across Imperial County. Operating with a high degree of independence and professional judgment, the Coordinator integrates recruitment strategy, admissions decision-making, transition programming, and financial aid communication to advance enrollment goals and student success. This position is ideal for an experienced student services professional ready to shape regional access pathways and influence institutional enrollment outcomes at a growing campus.

Requirements

• Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field plus upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing and conflict resolution where such are job related.
• Possession of the below required knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent to four years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience which includes experience in advising students individually and in groups, and in analysis and resolution of complex student services problems.
• A master’s degree in counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.
• A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling, guidance or a job-related field may be substituted for two years of the required professional experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional, personal or career counseling.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish (required).
• Willingness and ability to travel to local high schools and other destinations within Imperial County on a weekly basis
• Demonstrated experience providing outreach, recruitment, advising, or counseling services to high school and/or college students and their families.
• Experience working effectively with diverse student populations and communities.
• Strong public speaking and presentation skills, with experience leading workshops, information sessions, or large-group programming.
• Working knowledge of SDSU and CSU systems, including admissions and registration policies and procedures.
• Experience using student information systems and/or customer relationship management (CRM) platforms to manage recruitment and admissions communications.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications.
• Ability to travel as needed and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to support outreach and recruitment activities.
• Valid California Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Strategic Recruitment Leadership: Design and execute a year-round regional recruitment strategy aligned with institutional enrollment priorities, with emphasis on Nursing, Public Health, and STEM pathways.
• Admissions Oversight & Policy Implementation: Lead the first-year admissions review committee, establish annual review timelines and priorities, ensure equitable and compliant application evaluation, and conduct post-cycle assessments to improve process effectiveness.
• Regional Partnership Development: Cultivate and sustain collaborative relationships with high schools, community colleges, educational agencies, and industry partners to strengthen recruitment pipelines and mentorship pathways.
• Program & Event Leadership: Direct high-visibility recruitment and transition initiatives, including Discover SDSU-IV, Explore SDSU-IV, and the Aztecs Leadership Institute, incorporating data-driven evaluation and continuous improvement.
• Complex Case Resolution: Serve as the campus escalation point for sensitive or complex admissions concerns, applying sound judgment and policy expertise to resolve issues and recommend procedural adjustments when patterns emerge.
• Data & Enrollment Strategy: Analyze recruitment and enrollment trends, manage CRM communication strategies, and align outreach efforts with financial aid engagement to improve yield and student access outcomes.
