About The Position

Borden Dairy is seeking a highly analytical, detail-oriented, and results-driven professional to join our team as Fleet Manager. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the functional and financial operation of our transportation fleet, garage operations, and maintenance programs. You’ll oversee and support key functions within the distribution department to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective delivery of our products.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in a related field preferred; equivalent education/experience in automotive technology (minimum 60 semester units) required.
  • Minimum 5 years of direct Fleet/Garage Management experience in food/beverage, consumer products, manufacturing, or over-the-road transportation.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build consensus and foster positive relationships across teams.
  • Proven ability to solve problems creatively and challenge traditional approaches.
  • Skilled in analyzing complex data sets and making strategic business recommendations.
  • Advanced knowledge of capital and operating budgets, P&L, DOT compliance, and fleet optimization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across all levels and cultures.
  • Class A or B CDL preferred. Must possess a valid CDL-A or CDL-B and Medical Examiner’s Certificate per FMCSA Part 391.41 before operating a commercial vehicle for Borden Dairy.
  • Must have or be able to obtain the following within 3 months of hire: EPA Clean Air Act Section 608 Type II Certification EPA Clean Air Act Section 609 MVAC Certification FMCSA Part 396.25 Brake Inspector Certification FMCSA Part 396.19 Annual Inspector Certification

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of Continuous Improvement methodologies strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide resources and guidance to fleet employees regarding the maintenance and repair of mechanical transportation equipment to support safe product distribution.
  • Manage processes to ensure a viable, well-maintained fleet; develop fleet replacement cycles, capital requirements, and asset redeployment priorities.
  • Collaborate with the Fleet Director, Distribution Manager, and Controller to prepare capital and operating budgets.
  • Drive process consistency and cross-functional collaboration using Continuous Improvement methodology to deliver cost savings and operational efficiency.
  • Build and lead a high-performing garage team aligned with company goals, profitability, and vision.
  • Oversee garage operations including mechanic training, process development, PM inspections, purchasing, tire programs, diagnostics, fleet repairs, and DOT compliance.
  • Benchmark and set performance targets for fleet operations and garage team effectiveness.
