Job Overview: The Fleet Manager is responsible for running an efficient fleet maintenance operation across multiple locations within their assigned area, including the direct management of in-house maintenance shops, mobile mechanics and repairs completed with local third-party maintenance providers. The Fleet Manager will organize the shop workflow, quality control, parts management and shop organization. The Fleet Manager will working closely with local operations leadership, the Group Fleet Manager and the corporate fleet team, to drive fleet reliability, coordinate preventive maintenance, breakdown repairs, vendor oversight, parts control, compliance and shop performance within their area of responsibility.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of DOT regulations, state and local regulations, hazardous waste disposal, safety, OSHA and other related standards
  • Proficient in preventive maintenance control systems and in parts procurement and inventory control
  • Ability to manage multiple sites and formulate strong team environments
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to motivate and get results from team members
  • Ability to plan, organize workflow, prioritize tasks, analyze data and meet multiple deadlines
  • AA degree in related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Three to Five years of fleet vehicle mechanic experience
  • Five years or more of supervisory experience
  • Meet all requirements of a qualified commercial driver; position requires regular travel to various facilities within their area of responsibility.
  • Driver’s license
  • Automobile insurance on personal vehicle
  • Meet minimum DMV/MVR points per company policy

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience of operating and managing a fleet shop is preferred
  • ASE Master Mechanic Certification a plus

Responsibilities

  • Managing the fleet mechanic staff in multiple locations, including responsibility for hiring, scheduling performance management, training and overall performance.
  • Lead and complete quality check and audit for all completed work
  • Forecast goals and objectives for the department
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationship with the facility managers, area managers, group fleets managers, service coordinators, route sales representatives (RSR) and other internal partners.
  • Uphold and drive compliance of federal Department of Transportation (DOT), state and local regulations and corporate policies that affect service operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA right to know standards.
  • Resolve any issues or complaints, and provide technical assistance to employees as needed
  • Provide direction and guidelines for the fleet mechanic staff regarding, performance, scheduled work, and other assigned task to ensure they are meeting deadlines for assigned work.
  • Work with the Group Fleet Manager to ensure the fleet mechanic have updated knowledge and skills.
  • Manage fleet maintenance performance within their area of responsibility, ensuring preventative maintenance services are completed on-schedule, defects identified in eDVIRs, and safety recalls are repaired in a timely manner.
  • Follow-up on part usage and maintain parts inventory to efficiently operate shop so mechanics did not have to wait for parts to complete necessary repairs.
  • Monitor repair order trends for breakdowns, multiple fleet failures, comebacks, and tire wear.
  • Monitor the location, condition and care of shop tools and equipment.
  • Account for, report and review all repair orders and parts purchases within fleet or procurement reporting systems.
  • Ensure the vehicle service records are current and available for reference.
  • Handle internal and external customer calls to properly maintain and service the fleet.
  • Review and update operations reports such as preventative maintenance, parts inventory, eDVIR and telematics uptime.
