Working under general supervision, the Food Safety Supervisor will lead and coordinate sanitation and food safety operations across the facility to ensure all production areas, equipment, and processing environments meet regulatory, GMP, and SQF standards. The position is responsible for supervising sanitation personnel, maintaining sanitation systems, supporting pest control programs, and ensuring all food safety procedures are consistently executed to protect product integrity. Success in this role is measured by maintaining audit readiness, ensuring effective sanitation execution, minimizing contamination risk, and promoting a culture of safety and quality across departments. The Food Safety Supervisor supports operational excellence by ensuring sanitation programs, training, and compliance systems operate effectively in a high-volume food manufacturing environment. Employees in this position may interact with their leader daily to receive guidance and feedback. Most non-routine activities may require their leader’s advance approval, but routine decisions within the general scope of the role may be made independently.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED from an accredited institution or equivalent relevant experience required
  • At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in food manufacturing sanitation, food safety, or quality assurance required.
  • 3 years of experience supervising employees in a food manufacturing or sanitation environment required.
  • Ability to lift 45 lbs.
  • Ability to stand up to 8–10 hours per shift.
  • Proficient ability to apply Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), sanitation procedures, and food safety standards within a food production environment.
  • Working understanding of SQF certification requirements, HACCP principles, and sanitation verification programs.
  • Proficient ability to supervise and train employees while maintaining a safe and respectful workplace.
  • Working understanding of cleaning chemicals, sanitation equipment, and safe chemical handling procedures including dilution control systems and SDS compliance.
  • Working knowledge of pest control programs and environmental monitoring procedures within food processing facilities.
  • Developing to working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) for documentation, reporting, and communication.
  • Proficient ability to read, interpret, and implement safety procedures, operational manuals, and sanitation instructions written in English.
  • Working understanding of basic mathematics including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Working ability to communicate effectively with employees and leadership
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in Food Science, Food Safety, Microbiology, or a related field preferred.
  • Spanish comprehension preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee all sanitation and food safety operations to ensure compliance with GMP, SQF, regulatory, and company standards.
  • Manage sanitation systems, chemicals, equipment, and tools, ensuring proper use, safety compliance, and effective cleaning outcomes.
  • Hire, train, schedule, and develop sanitation staff and Food Safety Foremen to support production and food safety requirements.
  • Conduct and oversee sanitation verification activities, including pre‑op inspections, ATP testing, environmental monitoring support, and allergen changeovers.
  • Enforce workplace safety and regulatory compliance, including OSHA, LOTO, chemical handling, and facility safety programs.
  • Maintain sanitation, safety, and compliance documentation; support audits and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Coordinate sanitation activities with Production, Maintenance, Quality, and pest control partners to minimize downtime and risk.
  • Drive continuous improvement in sanitation efficiency, safety culture, and food safety performance while promoting company
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of this role.
